The compilation of Yuefu poems began very early, and some temple music songs in the suburbs of Han Dynasty have been recorded in History of Rites and Music, which can be said to be the origin of the compilation work. Unfortunately, the feudal historian was limited to elegance and vulgarity, and only kept the number of folk songs in the Han Dynasty in Yi Wen Zhi, and all the songs were eliminated and not recorded. Since then, the official revision of history has been similar to Hanshu. Only the Book of Songs in the Song Dynasty, "Since the temple, all actions are detailed without obscene words", recorded a large number of China's chorus. Today, most Han Yuefu folk songs are handed down by Song Le Shu. Private compilation began in the Jin Dynasty and flourished in the Southern Dynasties. A large number of Yuefu poems appeared in this period, and more than 30 Yuefu poems were found in Sui Shu, New and Old Tang Books and Yiwenzhi. However, almost all these books have disappeared. The earliest collection of Yuefu poems that we can see today is Guo Maoqian's Yuefu poems.
We know little about Guo Maoqian's life. According to the Summary of Sikuquanshu, Mao Qian is the grandson of Staff Sergeant Guo Shou, and his official career is unknown. He was a programmer in Hunzhou (now Dongping, Shandong Province). When Yuefu Poetry was published, it was Guo Maoqian in Taiyuan, generally referring to the county as a general rule. Other life experiences are unknown. It can be said that the book Yuefu Poetry made his fame immortal.
Yuefu Poetry, with a total volume of 100, is a voluminous and valuable work on Yuefu studies. It searches for great wealth and classifies it accurately. Poems of Jiaomiao 12, poems 3, songs of worship 5, songs of cross blowing 5, songs of harmony 18, songs of Qing Dynasty 8, songs of dancing music 5, Qin Ge 4 and miscellaneous songs/kloc. Yuefu poems before the Five Dynasties were properly divided into twelve categories and recorded, including aristocratic music songs such as suburban temples, and a large number of folk songs, such as Yuefu folk songs in the Southern and Northern Dynasties, which have been handed down to this day in Yuefu Poems. Although folk songs only account for about one tenth of all the songs in Yuefu poetry collections, they are a rare and precious heritage in the history of poetry.
