When people reach middle age, many people will be troubled by "floaters" in their eyes.
Floaters are a very special and common eye disease, but most people are either too nervous about them or too careless about them.
Occasionally, I will hear friends and colleagues around me mention that "it seems that there are always mosquitoes flying in front of me, but I can't catch them or hit them." This kind of "mosquito flying" puzzles some people, especially after middle age, many people have floaters.
What is a floating object?
In fact, floaters are a very special and quite common eye disease, but most people are either too nervous about floaters or too careless about them.
First of all, what is a floating object? Floaters are generally caused by vitreous degeneration, which is a natural aging phenomenon, that is, with aging, the glass will "liquefy" and produce some turbidity. Therefore, the official name of floaters is "vitreous disorder" or "vitreous floater".
The symptoms of floaters are: black spots will appear in front of the patient's eyes and fly around with the rotation of the eyeball. Like floaters, the shapes are round, oval, punctate and linear. It is common that patients are more likely to find it when they look at bright backgrounds such as blue sky and white walls.
80% are "good mosquitoes"
Floaters often occur in middle-aged and elderly people over 40 years old, patients with high myopia, people who have undergone cataract surgery, and other patients such as endophthalmitis or retinopathy.
Most floaters are benign, or "physiological floaters", which are "good mosquitoes", and only a few are "bad mosquitoes" which pose a serious threat to the eyeball. Experts believe that about 80% of floaters are formed by the hydration of glass fiber, which is benign.
The characteristic of "good mosquito" is simple: if the patient has floaters in both eyes, it is impossible to determine which eye has floaters. If these phenomena are not aggravated or changed after a period of time, and the position of floaters is fixed, it is mostly benign.
What is a "bad mosquito"?
On the contrary, if the phenomenon of floaters suddenly appears and is limited to one eye, the direction of mosquitoes flying is uncertain, the dark shadow covers the field of vision, and the vision is poor and the field of vision is defective, all of which are ominous signs that must be paid attention to.
The "bad mosquitoes" that pose a serious threat to the eyeball are generally caused by serious diseases. It is due to the pathological changes of retina, optic nerve, ciliary body and other structures near the vitreous body, which leads to the changes of the vitreous body.
The following summarizes several dangerous symptoms of floaters:
1, abnormal flash.
2. The number of floaters is increasing in a short time.
3, the line of sight has the feeling of being blocked.
Diagnosis and treatment
Because a few floaters are symptoms of serious diseases, experts believe that if floaters are found dancing in front of them, they should have an expert examination first. After the examination, if there are serious eye diseases, it is necessary to treat them. If it's just "good mosquitoes" caused by aging, you can adapt slowly and "turn a blind eye" to these mosquitoes without being too nervous.
But the result of the inspection does not mean that there will never be a problem. Once there is a flash, floaters suddenly increase, or the line of sight is blocked, you should receive a detailed examination immediately.
