"Black" is a major feature of Daheishan Island. According to records, the name of Daheishan Island appeared in the late Ming Dynasty, and it was named after the high iron content and black appearance of the rocks on the island. As one of the few island volcanoes in China, Daheishan Island created a peak at an altitude of 1.89 meters in volcanic eruption activities five million years ago, and the black basalt formed by magma also covered the western part of the island.
Today, the resident population of the island is only 1000, but there are two world-class geological heritage landscapes, the natural plank road in Zhaolongshan and the basalt mountain landscape in Laoheishan. In particular, Zhao Long, located at the northern end of Daheishan Island, is connected by five steep cliffs. Against the backdrop of seawater, it is a crystal clear fairy mountain, which has been called "Stone Forest on the Sea" since ancient times.
There is also a "natural plank road" on the cliff in Zhao Long. According to research, in the Holocene 1 0.5 million years ago, the sea level rose due to climate warming, and then the sea water receded, and the rock mass eroded by sea waves was several meters above the sea level, forming this "sea erosion plank road" with a length of about10.5 km and a width of about1m.
As the saying goes, "No Zhoushan in Youlong is not Long Island". You walk along the eroded plank road into Longzhou Mountain. Along the way, there are grotesque rocks and mysterious boulders, including general stone, scallop reef, flying sarcophagus, Arc de Triomphe, hat box stone, leading cliff and so on. It can be called three steps and one scene, five steps and one myth and legend. The whole scenic spot seems to be piled up by fairy tales.
There are nine sea caves in Zhaolong, the largest of which is Juxian Cave, which is about 20 meters above the water level and 83 meters deep. It is the deepest cave in Shi Ying in the world and is known as "the first sea cave in the north". There is also a naturally formed hall in the cave, which is called Juxian Hall by islanders. According to legend, it is the place where the Eight Immortals met when crossing the sea.
Juxian Cave is formed by waves scouring along cracks in quartzite, and has two connected holes, which can be accessed from the "main entrance" by boat. Inside the cave, the high dome stands, the depth is unpredictable, and the water is gurgling. Its most ingenious landscape is the natural image of Guanyin Bodhisattva. Standing on the water, the outline of Guanyin statue is lifelike, which makes tourists lament the wonders of nature.
From another entrance of Juxian Cave, you can see a square mountain standing in the sea. Because it looks like a building, it is also called "stone building". It is said that fishermen used to judge the time when they went out to sea according to the projection of the "stone building". There is also a naturally formed window above the "Stone Building". Sitting on the stone window and taking a nap, the sea breeze blows gently, just like being in a fairyland.
In 2005, Zhao Long was awarded the National Geopark. However, unlike most popular islands in China, there is not much tourism development here at present, and the original features are still preserved. Friends who want to visit here can take the "Xunxian 16" passenger ship from Pengchang Port and sail for about 1.5 hours to reach Daheishan Island.
