Changbaishan Tianchi

Also known as Baitoushan Tianchi, located in the southeast of Jilin Province, it is a border lake between China and North Korea, and the northern part of the lake is in Jilin Province. Changbai Mountain, located on the border between China and North Korea, is magnificent, rich in resources and beautiful in scenery. In ancient times, Changbai Mountain was originally a volcano. According to historical records, it has erupted three times since16th century. When a volcano erupts and spews a lot of lava, the crater forms a basin. After a long time, the accumulated water became a lake, and it became the Tianchi Lake now. However, lava material erupted from the volcano accumulated around the crater, forming 16 peaks standing around, including 7 in North Korea and 9 in China. These nine peaks have their own characteristics, forming a unique landscape.

Tianchi Lake is the highest crater lake in China. Although it is surrounded by peaks, the elevation is only 2194m. It is oval in shape, 4.85km long from north to south, 3.35km wide from east to west, with an area of 9.82km2 and a perimeter of 13. 1 km. The water is very deep, with an average depth of 204 meters and the deepest point of 373 meters. It is the deepest lake in China, with a total storage capacity of about 2 billion cubic meters.

The water in Tianchi overflowed from a small gap, flowing out about 1000 meters, and poured down from the cliff, forming the famous Changbai Mountain Waterfall. The waterfall is more than 60 meters high and spectacular, and its roar can be heard 200 meters away. The water from the Great Waterfall flows into Songhua River, which is a source of Songhua River. Not far from Changbai Waterfall, there is Changbai Hot Spring, which is a hot spring group with a distribution area of 1000 square meters, with 13 eyes spewing out.
