Character introduction:

Zhuan Xu (zhuān xū), surnamed Ji, Gaoyang clan, grandson of the Yellow Emperor, son of Changyi. The leader of the ancient tribal alliance, one of the "Five Emperors", and one of the ancestors of humanity. Zhuanxu assisted Shaohao with meritorious service, and his fiefdom was in Gaoyang (now Gaoyang Town, Qixian County, Henan Province), so he was named Gaoyang.

After Shaohao's death, he defeated the Gong clan who was vying for the throne and became the leader of the tribal alliance, named "Gaoyang clan". The capital was originally Qiongsang, and later moved to Shangqiu. After Zhuanxu died, he was succeeded by Emperor Ku, the great-grandson of Huangdi. According to the analysis of various historical data, it is roughly composed of Nuwa, Pangu, Zhuanxu, Huandou, Zhurong and other ethnic groups. According to the records of the 18th year of Wen Gong's "Zuo Zhuan" (609 BC), Zhuanxu is composed of eight ethnic groups: "Cangshu, Kunzhi, Yuji, Dalin, Longjiang, Tingjian, Zhongrong, and Shuda".

According to "Historical Records", Zhuanxu was the grandson of Huangdi and the son of Changyi. According to "Shui Jing Zhu", Huangdi's second son Changyi was demoted because of his low talent and virtue and was not qualified to inherit the throne. When he arrived at Ruoshui, he became a prince (this was the result of Li Daoyuan's family's decision to demote him to the status of prince due to his poor virtue, and the eldest son of the Yellow Emperor was Xuan Xiao). The ancient books "Dadaili Imperial Lineage" and "Emperor Century" both record that Changyi's concubine Changpu, also known as Nushu, saw a "Yaoguang star penetrating the moon like a rainbow" in the sky one night "She had a vision, and she felt pregnant because of it, and later gave birth to Zhuanxu. The "Shan Hai Jing Hai Nei Jing" records the same, and points out that Zhuan Xu was the second son of Chang Yi and the younger brother of Han Liu.

Being Emperor

Zhuanxu was born in Ruoshui. Because of his meritorious service in assisting Shaohao, he was granted the title of Gaoyang. After Shaohao's death, the Gong clan and Zhuanxu competed for the throne. Zhuanxu defeated Gong and succeeded Shaohao as the "Gaoyang clan".

After Zhuanxu became the emperor of the world, he first made his capital Qiongsang and then moved his capital to Shangqiu. The Five Virtues have always been said to have been formed during the Warring States Period. It is said that "the Xuan Palace he lives in is the palace in the north, the color of the north is black, and the five elements belong to water." Therefore, the ancients said that he took the virtue of water as his emperor, also known as the "Xuan Emperor".
