On February 19, 2005, at the suggestion of Yang He Lan Yun, a netizen, I participated in a meeting organized by the volunteer propaganda service team in Brother Bar for the first time, and felt the atmosphere of the volunteer family for the first time. After the meeting, Yong Yang, one of the founders of this team, and I discussed several issues that I was concerned about. The most acute question I asked was: Since volunteers want to talk about selfless dedication, why should they bring the media to the event? Yong Yang answered me like this: Our purpose is to publicize and let more people care about leukemia patients. There is no contradiction between dedication and publicity. Some good things can be low-key unsung heroes, but publicity needs high-profile publicity to be effective. The key is to grasp that the main body of publicity is to pay attention to leukemia action rather than individual volunteers. After this meeting, I got a new understanding of volunteers and began to devote myself to this team sincerely.
The development of this team is not smooth sailing. A loose NGO, everyone has a different understanding of the concept of volunteers, and each team member has his own ideas. Even for the name of a team, he will be flushed. How to gather the popularity of the team and make it play its due role is a difficult problem before me when I took over as the general manager of this team in September 2005.
Some people say that the new official has three fires. At that time, I lit four fires: first, I set up a volunteer website to manage my daily work. I am a network engineer by profession. This is my specialty. I wrote all the codes myself. I have independent intellectual property rights. The second is to formulate a set of operational organization and management methods and instill them into the players through training. Fiona Fang cannot live without rules. Before, our team had only one organizational regulation, which was programmatic and difficult to operate. The third is to strengthen the backbone team, clarify everyone's responsibilities and division of labor, and solve everything, so that I can have more energy to grasp the organizational construction of the team, rather than being stuck in specific trivial matters. Being hands-on is not necessarily a good leader. The fourth is to strengthen foreign exchanges and cooperation. We take advantage of various opportunities to actively communicate with organizations and groups such as District Red Cross Society, Communist Youth League Committee, District Blood Office, Shanghai Hematopoietic Stem Cell Donors Club, Fengxian Red Cross Volunteer Service Team, and strive to get more support and help from them, so that our team can grow sturdily under their sunshine and rain.
During my nearly four years as the head of the volunteer service team, I have always followed a very important principle, that is, volunteers serve social welfare undertakings, and the backbone of volunteers serve volunteers. As the head, I should serve the backbone of volunteers. This is a service aimed at improving work efficiency rather than leading and commanding, and it is also intended to encourage my successor.
Years of volunteer practice have given me a lot of gains and insights. It is also a qualitative change in my outlook on life and values. I never understand or even exclude volunteer activities, but I joined the volunteer team and became the person in charge. I once doubted how many people would like to join us and how many players would like to abide by so many rules. However, when I saw the long queue of hematopoietic stem cells in the collective warehouse, when I saw the bustling participants at the annual meeting, when I saw the old aunts and grandmothers in the nursing home casting ardent eyes on us, when I saw the volunteers queuing up in the blood collection vehicle to offer their blood, my heart was moved again and again, and my soul was sublimated again and again.
What I still remember is the collective storage service on March 5, 2005, which was the first time I joined the team and the first collective blood test service since the team was established. The volunteers who came to the warehouse far exceeded expectations, and there were not enough test tubes brought by Shanghai, so they had to open the back door and voluntarily put them in storage. The scene was very real and touching, and it happened in front of me. Originally, I planned to take this opportunity to put it in storage by myself after the end of service, but later I had to give up and wait for the next opportunity of collective storage. However, I didn't put it in storage until 10. Anxious Heyang Lan Yun asked me to take a bus to Shanghai Blood Center on Hongqiao Road to put it in storage.
Silently, this team has gone through five years, from the initial six people to more than 700 registered players and 100 full-time players, which is soaked with the sweat of everyone sitting here. Today, I won this award, in fact, I am in fear, because the service is done by everyone, and now I have brought the aura of glory to my head. I don't do many specific services. If you calculate the ranking, it is basically below 5 and 10 every year. In the previous year, playing with fire (Zhang Feng) served the most. Last year, Wen Wen (Cai Xiaowen) should have served the most, and the blood collection vehicle served for a long time and was very hard. But she didn't win the prize today, and many active players didn't win the prize either. But this is the fifth anniversary, mainly to take care of our old players. Glory is an encouragement and a spur, which will always remind me that my code of conduct should be worthy of this honor.
