Brief Introduction to the Main Edition of Romance of the Three Kingdoms

The earliest existing publication is Popular Romance of the Three Kingdoms, which was written in the Jiajing period of Ming Dynasty (1522). The book has 24 volumes and 240 articles, each of which is preceded by seven words and one sentence. The preface is written by Hongzhi Jiayin (1494) Yong (Jiang Daqi) and Jiajing Renwu Xiuzuzi (Zhang). Later, most of the new periodicals came from here, only illustrations, audio interpretation and textual research. Make some adjustments in comments, volumes, titles and individual words.

By the time Mr. Li Zhuowu criticized the reflection, 240 sentences were combined into 120, and the reply changed from a single sentence to a double sentence.

In recent years, academic circles have noticed that there are many periodicals from Jiajing to the Apocalypse with different titles from The Romance of the Three Kingdoms, such as The Newly Edited Annals of the Three Kingdoms, Popular Romance of Posters, The Newly Edited Annals of the Three Kingdoms Criticizing Various Aspects of the Three Kingdoms, etc. The difference between this biography system and the version of Romance system is that the story of Guan Yu's second son Guan Suo (or Hua) is interspersed in the "History of the Three Kingdoms" of the biography system. Except for some differences in plot and characters, there are different opinions on which of the two systems comes first and who is close to Luo Guanzhong's original work. There are also some scholars who think that Jiajing edition and Biography of the Three Kingdoms are of the same origin, and the differences between the two systems are only produced in the process of copying.

During the Kangxi period of Qing Dynasty, based on Li Zhuowu's comments, Mao Lun and Mao Zonggang and his son made great changes, additions and deletions to the title and text, and made detailed comments. Mao Ben's History of the Three Kingdoms is more orthodox in morality, but it has greatly improved in art and its comments are full of incisive opinions, so it has become the most popular book in the future. People nearby often call it Romance of the Three Kingdoms for short, and gradually confuse it with Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and even replace it with the most representative title in the history of literature.
