Tianmu's remaining veins, beautiful mountains and clear waters
Hangzhou, formerly known as Lin'an, was the capital of the Wuyue Kingdom of the Five Dynasties and the Southern Song Dynasty.
Hangzhou is located on the north bank of Zhenjiang, where the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal intersects with the Qiantang River. To the northwest is Tianmu Mountain, and to the southwest and southeast are Longmen Mountain and Kuaiji Mountain. It has such picturesque scenery that the feudal rulers were happy to revel in the scenery of lakes and mountains, so they established their capital here. Lin Sheng, a poet of the Song Dynasty, reprimanded: "There are green mountains outside the mountains, towers outside, and when will the singing and dancing in West Lake stop? The warm wind makes tourists drunk, and they only call Hangzhou Bianzhou."
About Hangzhou's water, Tian Rucheng recorded in "West Lake Tour Chronicles" that Yang Mengying, the governor of the county in the third year of Zhengde in the Ming Dynasty (1508), said: "The Hangzhou veins originate from Tianmu, and the mountains are flying, and they are stationed in Qiantang. Between the rivers and lakes, the mountains stop and the water gathers. The vitality merges across Wushan Mountain in the south, Wulin in the north, the Yangtze River on the left, and the lake on the right, so the overall situation is interconnected, and Zhong Lingyu is outstanding in it."
Li Sicong discussed Hangzhou Qianlong in "Kanyu Zazhu". Said: "Hangzhou Qianlong started from Tianmu, and its ancestors are too far away to be mentioned. After crossing the gorge from Huangshan Mountain, Yi Zhi started from the South Peak, from Shiwu, passed Qianliangsi Ridge, started from Jiuyao Mountain, Yuewang Mountain, and passed Ciyun Ridge. He started from Yu. Jiaochang, Shengguo Mountain, Fenghuang Mountain, pass Wansong Ridge, start from Wushan Mountain and enter the city, start from Taoyuan Ridge Qingzhiwu, start from Wushi Mountain behind Yuefeng, enter the city from Zhiguo Mountain Baoshu Pagoda, and come to Longyanjiang River. Down below, they are protected by star mountains, across the river from the peaks, reflecting the dragon in the distance, directly from Xiaoshan to Haimen, where the sky arc star is born, crossing the river from Beizimen Shigu, and starting from the mountains of Gaoting. The water from the lower boundary flows into the Qiantang River from Tonglu in Yanzhou; the water from the left boundary flows into the Guanhe River from the Xixi Stream in Yuhang. Unfortunately, the two streams are not connected, and the rivers in the city are blocked and dirty, and their veins are unclear."
"There is paradise above, and Suzhou and Hangzhou below." Hangzhou is not only beautiful in scenery, but also a water treasure land with numerous water resources in Jiangsu and Zhejiang. No wonder the small court of the Southern Song Dynasty established its capital in Hangzhou instead of Nanjing, which was closer to the Central Plains. Hangzhou is bounded by Tianmu Mountain to the west, Mogan Mountain and Kuaiji Mountain to the southwest and southeast, Hangzhou-Jiahu Plain to the north, and Qiantang River to the south. It is an estuary delta area that connects the river to the sea. The water pattern is very excellent.
However, the "backing" in the water of Hangzhou, namely the Tianmu Mountains, has many faults, is easily eroded, and the soil layer is shallow. Although it is a dragon vein, it is intermittent and the foundation is not deep, so although it has King Qi, but it won’t last long. The result is that Hangzhou can only become a giant town, but it cannot be used as the capital. The reason why the small court of the Southern Song Dynasty was poor and weak also had a lot to do with the water in Hangzhou.
