What paper is good for Chinese painting?
The paper used in Chinese painting is mainly rice paper, leather paper and silk. Xuan paper is divided into raw Xuan paper, cooked Xuan paper and semi-cooked Xuan paper. A good rice paper has the characteristics of cotton, white, thin and uniform, and also has the characteristics of "inking and fixing the pen" (inking means that the ink color is brightly colored on the paper and the pen marks are clear). Raw Xuan paper is divided into single Xuan, double Xuan and three-layer double Xuan according to the thickness of the paper. Generally speaking, the infiltration speed of thin paper is faster than that of thick paper. Semi-cooked rice paper means that the permeability is between raw rice paper and cooked rice paper. The specifications of rice paper are divided into four feet, five feet, six feet, eight feet and two feet. The performance of leather paper is similar to that of raw rice paper. The paper is strong and can withstand repeated rubbing, rubbing and rubbing, but it is not suitable for leaving pen marks, and it is easy to get gray when colored. Cooked rice paper is made by brushing raw rice paper with a proper proportion of rubber alum water, which does not absorb water. This paper is used for meticulous painting. Silk is a kind of silk fabric. There are two kinds of silk used in Chinese painting: raw silk and cooked silk. Raw silk, like raw rice paper, is easy to penetrate in color and ink painting. Cooked silk is bonded with alum water, like cooked rice paper, which feels more delicate and moist than cooked rice paper. When stored, it should be sealed to prevent alum leakage and moth-eaten. -Questions and answers on Chinese painting art knowledge
