Li Yuan's reforms in the early Tang Dynasty were as follows:
1. The central system of the Sui Dynasty was followed and improved.
The central political system of the Tang Dynasty can be summarized as three provinces, six departments and twenty-four divisions. The three provinces are Shangshu Province, Zhongshu Province and Menxia Province, and the six provinces are officials, households, rituals, soldiers, punishments and workers. Secondly, a two-level system of county magistrate and secretariat should be set up at the local level to restrict each other and avoid abusing power for personal gain.
2. Use land equalization system and rent adjustment system.
In the process of using these two systems, farmers' production time is more secure, and the burden of tax service is relatively reduced, thus reclaiming many wasteland and ensuring government tax revenue. Generally speaking, in the initial period, this system was indeed a good way to benefit the country and the people, but with the development of time, the phenomenon of private land annexation became more and more serious, and the original policy of benefiting the people began to make the people miserable, so the Tang Dynasty had to change the system and adopt a two-tax system.
3. In culture, education and religion.
Li Yuan followed the imperial examination system of Sui Dynasty to select talents, and made some optimization, which made the imperial examination system more and more perfect. At the same time, Li Yuan also produced the Collection of Arts and Literature, which is a library catalogue book, citing more than 1000 kinds of ancient books, which not only improved the education at that time, but also was very important for future research. At the same time, Li Yuan admires Confucianism, but whether this is beneficial to the people is very effective for strengthening imperial power.
In terms of religion, Buddhism was suppressed at first, because at that time, the Tang Dynasty pursued Confucianism, and the ideas expressed by Buddhism deviated from it, which naturally met with resistance.
Summary: Li Yuan, as the founding emperor of the Tang Dynasty, inherited the Sui Dynasty, removed its dross, took its essence, and optimized and improved it on this basis, laying a good foundation for the prosperity of the Tang Dynasty in the future.
