Introduction of New Notes on Sun Tzu's Art of War

(1) This book is annotated with Notes to Eleven Sons of Song Dynasty, which is photocopied by Shanghai Editorial Institute of Zhonghua Book Company, 196 1. Where there are important differences with other editions of Bamboo Slips of the Han Tomb in Yinque Mountain (version 1976) and The Art of War published by Cultural Relics Publishing House, please indicate them in the relevant notes for readers' reference. (2) Annotation method of this book: under each topic, there is a concise summary; Punctuation according to the original intention; Annotate difficult words, phrases and sentences separately, and indicate the basis as much as possible; Every paragraph has a translation, which is called "the general idea"; There is a "brief comment" after each article, focusing on the content of each article. The original text generally adopts simplified characters, and some words that are easy to cause ambiguity still retain traditional characters. (3) Some important words and expressions in the Art of War have always had different understandings, but the "general idea" is mainly translated according to our understanding. (4) In order to help readers understand the military thoughts of Sun Tzu's Art of War, some relevant examples of ancient wars in China are selected in the notes.
