Why is Hainan called Joan for short?

The specific reasons are as follows:

As early as the first year of Zhenguan in the Tang Dynasty (627), the court set up the Yazhou Governor's Office in Hainan Island to take charge of the whole island. At the same time, Qiongshan County is analyzed. Because there is a mountain in the county, the stones on the mountain are white and moist as jade, so it is called Qiongshan (now Xianmin Village, Jiazi Town, qiongshan district City, Haikou City), so it is named after the mountain, and the name of Qiongshan County begins. The county magistrate is located in Jiuzhou Village, Jiuzhou Town, qiongshan district, Haikou City. In the fifth year of Zhenguan in Tang Dynasty (63 1), Qiongshan County of Yazhou was located in Qiongzhou, and the State Administration Office was still in Jiuzhou Village. In the 13th year of Zhenguan (639), Qiongzhou was abolished, and Qiongshan County belonged to Yazhou, which was soon restored. In the first year of Ganfeng (666), the local natives rebelled, and Qiongzhou was captured in name only. 100 years later, in the fifth year of Zhenyuan (789), Li Fucai, the governor of Lingnan, recovered Qiongzhou and took over the Qiongzhou Governor's Office, commanding 23 counties in Qiongzhou, Cliff, Town, Cloud and Wan 'an, and stopped the Cliff Governor's Office. Hainan has been called "Joan" since then. Since then, except Qiongzhou in the Southern Han Dynasty, Qiongzhou in the Song Dynasty, Qiongzhou Military and Civilian Pacification Department in the Yuan Dynasty, and Qiongzhou Prefecture before April in the 31st year of Guangxu in the Ming and Qing Dynasties (1905), although their names are slightly different, they are all dubbed as "Qiongzhou", which is the highest administrative institution in charge of Hainan.

1988 in April 13, the first meeting of the Seventh National People's Congress adopted a decision on the establishment of Hainan Province, and decided to separate the administrative region of Hainan from Guangdong Province, and set up Hainan Special Economic Zone with Haikou as its capital.
