Are people who study mathematics particularly smart?

Are people who study mathematics particularly smart? My answer is that not all people who study mathematics are very smart. Moreover, I also believe that being smart is not a sufficient condition for learning mathematics, but learning mathematics well is a sufficient condition for becoming smart. Why do I say this? I will elaborate on it in three points below.

First point, combined with my personal experience and that of friends around me, as I get older, I feel more and more that being smart is not necessarily a good thing for everyone. There are too many people around who think they are smart, but do not study hard and are terrible at playing good cards. On the contrary, those who were not prematurely identified as smart people worked hard and finally achieved their own success and lived a prosperous life. When learning mathematics, it is even more obvious. A person with a high IQ may have a high ability to accept knowledge, but if he understands in class but does not review or answer questions after class, there is no difference between a high and a low IQ.

Second point, I mentioned in the first paragraph that intelligence is not a sufficient condition for learning mathematics well. I believe that hard work and persistence are sufficient conditions for learning mathematics well. Anyone who has experienced the college entrance examination understands that learning is a protracted battle, and learning mathematics is even more protracted. Once you choose mathematics in college, you may be with you for life. So you must have enough perseverance.

The third point is that it is undeniable that mathematics is difficult, learning mathematics is difficult, and persisting in learning mathematics is even more difficult. Therefore, you must be careful when choosing a major, especially for girls studying liberal arts. Before the reform of the high school college entrance examination, mathematics in the Ministry of Liberal Arts was simpler than mathematics in the sciences. Don't learn mathematics if you don't have interest, don't learn mathematics if you don't have perseverance, don't learn mathematics if you can't endure hardship.

In short, people who study mathematics do not need to be particularly smart, but they need to have something rarer than being smart. Finally, I wish everyone can get the grades they want and go to the school and major they like.
