What's the difference between a musical instrument and a sheng?

Difference-volume difference

The shovel is sheng-shaped, large and has many pipes, and the height of 23 pipes is 78 cm. Sheng is smaller than reed and is generally made of thirteen bamboo tubes with different lengths.

The second difference is the different structure:

The mouth of the barrel is made of wood and painted with deep red. Twenty-two pipes are scraped with a bamboo tube with a diameter of about 0.8 cm, with the longest being 78 cm and the shortest being 14 cm. Insert them into the bucket in two rows, eleven in each row, and fix them with four or five straps.

Sheng, like a phoenix, consists of three parts: sheng spring, sheng flute and sheng bucket. The vibration of the sheng spring makes the air in the sheng flute vibrate, thus making a sound. Twenty-one and twenty-four high-pitched sheng are commonly used in the band.

The third difference is practical:

Yan is an ancient musical instrument that few people use now, while Sheng is a reed instrument that originated in China, and it is the earliest musical instrument that uses free reeds in the world. Sheng is often used as the accompaniment of other wind instruments, such as flute and suona, which adds pure fourth or fifth harmony to the melody. In modern Chinese orchestras, sheng can play the role of melody or accompaniment.
