5 Introduction to seal script
Seal script is the collective name for large seal script and small seal script. Large seal script, nail bone inscriptions, bronze inscriptions, Zhou inscriptions, and Six Kingdoms inscriptions all store the obvious characteristics of ancient hieroglyphs. Xiaozhuan, also known as "Qin Zhuan", is the common writing script of the Qin Dynasty. After Qin Shihuang unified China, it was collectively called "Xiaozhuan", also known as "Qin Zhuan". The so-called seal script is actually the official script. It is a standardized common font for official documents. According to literature records, there was no special name for Chinese calligraphy before Qin, and Xiaozhuan gradually evolved from the Qin characters in the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. Since it is an official document, Xiaozhuan is only suitable for solemn occasions, such as stone engravings to record meritorious service, Uncle Liang's imperial edict, and military and tiger talismans. In the history of the development of Chinese characters, Xiaozhuan is a simplified font of Dazhuan. It is characterized by a uniform shape and a font that is easier to write than Zhenwen. It is the transition between large seal script and regular script. Modern Chinese characters evolved from Xiaozhuan. Although Xiaozhuan has a history of nearly 2,200 years, it still appears in many occasions today, especially in art design, calligraphy and painting works.
