The general process is: saw the board to the size of a page, soak it in water for more than a month, plane it and dry it, and apply soybean oil for later use. After leveling the board, polish it with equisetum. When the board is dry, grind the paper with a wooden thief so that the black words written backwards are close to the board, and you can start lettering.
The first step is called "hair knife". Carve straight column lines with a flat knife first, and then carve characters. The order is to carve a knife in the horizontal pen of each word, and then carve a knife from left to right. The horizontal pen should be flat and thin, and the vertical pen should be straight and thick than the horizontal pen.
Then there is the "pick a knife". According to the knife marks, the characters are carefully carved, and the literal strokes are slightly oblique and trapezoidal. After picking a knife, use a spade chisel to dig out the remaining wood word by word, which is called "picking dirt". Then chisel with crescent moon, knock carefully with mallet, and remove the redundant wordless wood.
Finally, the extra boards outside the column line of the frame are sawed off and planed neatly, which is called "trimming". At this point, the engraving is completed and printing can be started.
