Brief introduction of Sakya Temple

Sakya Temple is located at the foot of Benbo Mountain in Sakya County, Shigatse Prefecture, Xizang Autonomous Region. It is the Sakyamuni temple of Tibetan Buddhism and the main temple of Sakyamuni. Sakya Temple was listed as a national key cultural relic protection unit by the State Council in 196 1. "Sakya" is a Tibetan transliteration, which means dust. In A.D. 1073 (the sixth year of Xining in the Northern Song Dynasty), Kungong Quejiebu (1034- 1 102), a descendant of the Tubo aristocrat, found a hillside on the south side of Benshan, with white and shiny soil. Now it is auspicious, that is, he invested in the construction of Sakya Temple and gradually formed the Sakya Sect. Sakya Temple paints the temple walls with red color symbolizing Manjusri Bodhisattva, white color symbolizing Guanyin Bodhisattva, and cyan color symbolizing Vajrayana Bodhisattva, so Sakya Sect is also commonly known as "flower teaching".
