Preface of three-dimensional game design

With the development of cultural and creative industries, digital entertainment design is becoming a new professional direction. Digital entertainment design focuses on the public's entertainment and leisure ways, and creates participatory, interactive and entertaining products or environments through multimedia interaction based on digital and networked platforms. The specific design content is mainly digital game design, and it is also closely related to mobile content design, network art design, digital audio-visual design, digital animation and peripheral product design, virtual reality technology application, theme entertainment park experience design and other fields.

Digital entertainment design is a new cross-field produced by the integration of media art, design, film and television, music and digital technology in the information age, and the related teaching and research are still in the initial stage in China. In order to better explore the talent training mode in this field, Tsinghua University Academy of Fine Arts opened the second bachelor's degree in art design (digital entertainment design) in 2006, and also carried out the teaching practice of digital entertainment design in the direction of information art design. The series of digital entertainment design is launched to meet the needs of teaching practice and further standardize and promote the development of digital entertainment design teaching on the basis of summarizing the existing teaching experience. In terms of content arrangement, the series aims at cultivating compound digital entertainment and game design talents, focusing on cultivating students' creativity and evaluation ability in digital game design, as well as practical skills in game development and production performance.

The contents of this book include the concept of digital games, the basic knowledge and representative works of 3D games, the introduction of 3D game engines, the design process of digital games, the skills of 3D game prototyping, the evaluation and release of game works, and the application of virtual reality and interactive technology in games. In teaching, it focuses on the process of game design and production, that is, how to use a 3D game engine and various game production materials (3D models, 2D maps, etc.). ) to realize the ore gameplay of the game. This book uses "Dassault" Virtools Dev 4.0 software to prototype the game, which has the functions of "visual programming" and "real-time running and debugging", so that learners can avoid complicated game program problems and pay more attention to the level design and implementation of three-dimensional games.

This book emphasizes the continuity and gradualism of knowledge points. It mainly explains the knowledge and skills of 3D game design and production through a development example of 3D game prototype, focusing on the work of "level designer" in the game R&D team, so that learners can fully understand and master the process and method of 3D game design, and lay the foundation for making 3D games with other game engines in the future.
