Who was the first person to discover oil?
The earliest record of oil discovery recognized in the world is that China scientist Shen Kuo recorded the discovery and exploitation of oil in detail in his book Meng Qian Bi Tan. He discovered oil in the third year of Yuanfeng in the Northern Song Dynasty (1080) and named this substance with the word "oil" for the first time. However, it should be noted that although Shen Kuo may be the first person to clearly record and name oil, it does not mean that he was the first person to "discover" oil. Because before Shen Kuo, people began to exploit and use oil, but they didn't realize the value of oil and didn't give it a clear name. For example, in the ancient literature of China, there are records about people exploiting natural gas and oil in Sichuan and other places.
