Introduction to the evolution of veterinary Chinese herbal medicine
In the Shang Dynasty in China, there were medicinal wines and medicines such as peaches and peach kernels. "Zhou Li Tianguan Veterinary Medicine" records: "All places where animal diseases are treated should be irrigated ...; If you choose to treat an animal, you should pour it, cut it (scrape it), ... and then take medicine ... ". It can be seen that the application of Chinese herbal medicine in the treatment of livestock diseases has been more common in the pre-Qin period. In the 2nd century A.D., Shennong's Classic of Materia Medica clearly recorded veterinary drugs such as "leveling cattle, killing cattle lice, treating cattle diseases", "willow leaves, treating horse scabies", "tung flowers, treating pig blisters". There are veterinary prescriptions in Han bamboo slips, such as the prescription for treating horse water injury in quicksand bamboo slips. Veterinary Chinese herbal medicines are recorded in veterinary monographs, some agricultural books, medical books and even Li Shizhen's Compendium of Materia Medica in Ming Dynasty. Since 1950s, China has done a lot of work in the resource investigation, medicinal material production, processing, compatibility and dosage form reform, clinical application and pharmacological research of veterinary Chinese herbal medicines. It is estimated that there are about 500 kinds of commonly used veterinary Chinese herbal medicines in China.
