Legend of the Moon in Shan Hai Jing, Chu Ci and Huai Nan Zi (original and translation)

China's record about the moon first appeared in Di Jun mythology. Shan Hai Jing and Xiye Jing said: "Di Jun's wife was often born in the twelfth lunar month, so she began to take a bath." Di Jun is a figure in the national mythology of Yin and Shang Dynasties, which is only recorded sporadically in Shan Hai Jing Ye Xi Jing, but not in any ancient books. According to the records in The Emperor Born in the Later Ages, the myth of the emperor was quite late, close to the time when writing was invented, and could not be compared with the myths of Pangu and Nuwa at all.

In addition, the emperor's wife, Chang 'e Xi, is actually Chang 'e, obviously synthesizing the myth of Chang 'e. So, when was Chang 'e a god? This clue is obvious. After the separation of heaven and earth, ten suns appeared in the sky, so there was the theory that Hou Yi shot the sun and the Goddess Chang'e flying to the moon. It can be seen that the moon myth appeared very late in the whole myth series of China, and there was no record about the moon until after the separation of heaven and earth and the great flood.
