Which cultural relics are suitable as the basis for carbon fourteen dating of the site?

Can C 14 test the inanimate things like cultural relics?

First of all, although the conventional technique of carbon fourteen dating has played an important role in the development of archaeology, since its birth, the shortcomings of this technique have also brought inconvenience to archaeologists. One is that it needs a large number of specimens, not all sites can provide so many specimens, and of course it cannot be used to date some cultural relics that need to be dated. Moreover, its accuracy is still not enough. The farther the specimen is, the greater the error, sometimes reaching hundreds of years. This is a pity for scholars who study chronology. So there is a wood wheel age correction curve. After years of efforts by scientists, the combination of the two can reduce the error to a few years or even a year or two!

A new method for the determination of carbon fourteen has come out, which is to analyze carbon fourteen by accelerometer mass spectrometry. The English abbreviation is AMS. AMS has all the advantages of traditional methods, but it also has many advantages. Mainly what I said above, the accuracy of conventional dating method is not enough, and the sensitivity and accuracy of AMS are much better than that of conventional dating method. But what attracts experts more is that AMS requires very few specimens, only a few milligrams, which can almost achieve nondestructive testing. So there was the famous "Turin Shroud Case". I will explain this story in detail in the next chapter.
