This problem belongs to the composition problem in calligraphy. Calligraphy has three parts in technology: stippling, structure and composition. In a work, especially cursive script, some words are written very big, while others are written very small and uneven. Is there a rule to follow?
Strictly speaking, there are no fixed rules, otherwise it will appear artificial. However, there are some small rules in some aspects. In ancient calligraphy, the words written by sages are also of different sizes, such as plum blossoms falling and snowflakes fluttering, large and small, which look natural. Such works are often naturally formed at a high level, rather than deliberately sought after. Deliberately seeking, you will "seek deeper and lose further." The laws we are going to talk about today are probably not noticed or mentioned by our predecessors.
First of all, writing is like talking.
When we write, especially when we write cursive, it's like talking. When we speak, some words have logical stress. For example, "Have you eaten?" The word "eat" is a logical stress. The same is true when we write. Logical stress in our language is also a logical emphasis on "words". These words should be emphasized. If in a language, the pronunciation is light and weak, then write light and small.
For example, among the three words "my pen", the word "de" is light in pronunciation, so it should be relatively small when written.
It feels more comfortable to write like this because it is consistent with the pronunciation of the speech. But the word "de" is heavy and big, which is ugly.
So whether the cursive characters are big or small depends on your speed, rhythm and pronunciation. When we are writing cursive script, we are "talking" with a pen! In Huang Tingjian's "The Book of Full Mat Grass" and Ou Yangxun's "The Ritual Spring of Jiucheng Palace", calligraphers are not creating at all, but talking and communicating with readers! The size of the characters in the works is a natural expression, and it is impossible to calculate it deliberately.
Another example is Li Bai's famous sentence: "Doubt is the Milky Way for nine days". The word "doubt" is stressed and the word "yes" is light. I should feel the same way after writing.
If you write the word "yes" very big, it will be very uncomfortable.
Second, the font determines the size.
In the name, some words are big characters, such as the word "Xi" written by Wang Xizhi. This word should be written larger, and the word "Wang" and "Zhi" should be relatively smaller.
In addition, the surname should be written more heavily, especially when the surname has fewer strokes, and the name should be written less, especially when the name has more strokes. For example: "Ding Hong".
If you write it backwards, it will be ugly.
Therefore, when we write, the pronunciation and font of words can determine the size and composition of words.
