Yanhuo Dan, the name of the disease. See Volume 182 of "Sheng Ji Zong Lu". One of the erysipelas in children. Refers to erysipelas in children born in the two feet. Erysipelas is also known as Danji, Tianhuo, and Fire Dan. It is named because the skin of the affected area is as red as red paint and hot as fire. Those with no fixed location are called Chiyou Dan, those with hair on the head are named Baotou Huo Dan, and those with hair on the calves are named Minghuo Dan. Those that occur above are mostly caused by wind-heat turning into fire, while those that occur below are mostly caused by damp-heat turning into fire, and may also be caused by trauma and infection. At the beginning, the affected area is bright red with clear edges, burning, intermittent itching and pain, and rapidly spreads and expands, with fever, aversion to cold, headache and thirst; in severe cases, symptoms of internal attack of poisonous evils such as strong fever, irritability, coma, delirium, nausea and vomiting can be seen. Treatment should be to clear away heat and detoxify, cool blood and remove blood stasis. For Baotou Huodan, take Puji Disinfectant Drink; for fluid-burning fire, take Longdan Xiegan Decoction with a flavor; for severe cases, take Lanye Powder plus Scutellaria baicalensis and Radix Scutellariae, or Luolu Decoction, or Xiaodan Decoction with a flavor; for external treatment, compound Coptidis Coptidis Ointment can be used. It can be applied as a four-color powder, or one liter of adzuki beans can be ground and sieved finely, or the white bark of elm root can be used as powder, and chicken eggs can be used as white and as mud, and applied on it; if the heat, pain, and redness are severe, use Jinhua powder for application; it can also be used Cimicifuga soup is used for external washing. For recurrent erysipelas in the lower limbs, bloodletting can be performed using the Bianstone sickle method to release the heat poison [1].

Fireworks Dan mostly occurs on the soles of the feet, metatarsals, and back. Treatment should be to take internally the fire-suppressing and Yang-restraining pills and externally apply Phellodendri phellodendron [2].
