Wang Tao (1828 ~ 1897)
A: Originally named Han, he was born in Wuxian County, Jiangsu Province, and was the first newspaper commentator in China. From 65438 to 0849, he worked in Mohai Library in London and participated in the compilation of Liuhe Congtan. 1862 was discovered by the Qing court and fled to Hong Kong to write to the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom to remonstrate. 1864 was hired as the editor-in-chief of current affairs catalogue of China newspaper. From 65438 to 0867, he traveled around Europe with the missionary Jacob. 1870 After returning to Hong Kong, he wrote for Hong Kong's Huazi Daily and partnered with Huang Sheng to set up China Printing General Administration to run the printing and publishing industry. He founded Cycle Daily from 65438 to 0874, and served as the editor-in-chief of the newspaper from 1884. Wang Tao has published a lot of comments in Circular Daily with the aim of "strengthening China and keeping foreign students, focusing on teachers". 1883, Wang Tao compiled some newspaper political essays into "Yiyuan Off-Record Compilation", which became the first collection of newspaper political essays in China. Wang Tao's political essays promoted the formation of current affairs style later. 1884, Wang Tao returned to Shanghai to settle down and stopped being the lead writer.
