The Historical Origin of Brocade Skills of Zhuang Nationality

As a kind of arts and crafts, Zhuang brocade is one of the most wonderful cultural creations of the Zhuang people, and its history is also very long. It is said that as early as the Han Dynasty, a kind of "acupoint cloth" has been produced locally, which is suitable for summer heat and can keep out the cold for the soft-ripe. After the founding of New China, archaeologists excavated several pieces of orange brocade in the No.7 remnant burial pit of the Han Tomb in Luobowan, Guangxi, which proved that Guangxi had brocade skills in the Han Dynasty.

Zhuang brocade has experienced the development and changes from monochrome to colorful and from simple to complex. The fragments of black-orange-red Hui Wen Brocade unearthed from the Han Tomb in Radish Bay in Guigang can be regarded as the origin of Zhuang Brocade. In the Tang Dynasty, the Zhuang people's plantain cloth, bamboo cloth, sanshui cloth, spotted cloth and silk all became court tributes.

However, according to ancient books and documents, textiles that can really be called "Zhuang Brocade" appeared in the Song Dynasty, which has been more than 900 years since. (See General History of Zhuang Nationality by Huang Xianfan, p. 622).

During this period, the textile industry of Zhuang nationality developed further, and besides ordinary cloth and silk, there were also tapestries interwoven with silk, hemp and silk cotton. The white pattern in the Song Dynasty and the thick cloth in Kerry are the early gorgeous tapestries. During the Yuanfeng period of the Northern Song Dynasty, Lu Dafang founded Shujin Academy in Sichuan. Among the four tapestries, Guangxi Brocade (Zhuang Brocade) is one of the tributes, which shows the preciousness of Zhuang Brocade. According to Fan Chengda's "Gui Yu Hai Zhi Heng" in the Southern Song Dynasty, at that time, the two rivers around Guangxi produced Zhuang Brocade, which was called carbonyl cloth, and its quality was like China Line, and there were small Fang Shengwen everywhere.

In the Ming Dynasty, Zhuang brocade became more and more popular, and its craftsmanship became more and more exquisite. During the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, Zhuang brocade with dragon and phoenix patterns has become a tribute of the imperial court.

During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Zhuang brocade was woven with various colors of wool, which made Zhuang brocade present gorgeous colors. Although it is still a tribute of the royal family, ordinary people can enjoy it. At that time, all counties had production. "Strong people love to pick and choose. All clothes, towels and quilts belong to them, so they have to weave with five-color wool, such as flowers and birds." "Marry fung, soil brocade quilt cover is absolutely indispensable, so everyone can knit at home. Golden soil willow velvet, five colors, thick and durable, worth five Liang, the daughter who has never learned weaving. " Zhuang brocade is not only an article and ornament in the daily life of Zhuang people, but also an indispensable "female red" for Zhuang women. Zhuang brocade is an indispensable thing in dowry. At the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, Zhuang brocade began to decline. After more than a thousand years' development, Zhuang Brocade has formed its own system, including three categories, more than 20 varieties and more than 50 patterns. It is famous for its durability, exquisite craftsmanship, unique patterns and exquisite patterns.
