2. Basic introduction
Zuo Zhuan is the earliest detailed chronicle of ancient China, with a total of 35 volumes.
The full name of Zuozhuan is Chunqiu Zuoshi Zhuan, which was also called Chunqiu Zuoshi in Han Dynasty. It was only after the Han Dynasty that it was called Zuo Zhuan, which was a historical book with comments on Spring and Autumn Annals. Together with Chunqiu Gongyang Biography and Chunqiu Guliang Biography, they are called Chunqiu Sanzhuan. Zuo Zhuan is not only a strategic masterpiece, but also a historical masterpiece. Legend has it that it was written by Zuo Qiuming, a historian of Lu in the late Spring and Autumn Period.
Zuo Zhuan is China's first chronological history book with detailed narration, and it is also one of the thirteen Confucian classics. The authors of Zuo Zhuan, Sima Qian and Ban Gu have all been proved to be Zuo Qiuming, which is the most credible historical data at present. Some scholars think it was written by people in the early years of the Warring States, but they all question it, because the narrative style of some articles in Zuo Zhuan is inconsistent with others, and there is no historical evidence to support it, so it can only be classified as speculation.
3. Influence
The influence of Zuo Zhuan on later generations is first reflected in history. It not only developed the chronological style of Spring and Autumn Annals, but also recorded and preserved a part of the popular practical writing at that time, which provided reference for the development of applied writing in later generations. According to Chen Xun, a poet in the Song Dynasty, there are eight kinds of life, such as oath, alliance, prayer, remonstration, concession, writing and reciprocity, which are far more than these. Later generations believe that prose also originated from Zuo Zhuan. Moreover, this book also has high artistic value in Chinese literary world and great contribution to historiography!
