The grading system and ribbon system of karate are based on judo. Karate grade was released by Funakoshi Gichin on 1924, which is the earliest karate grade in history.

Karate, like judo, is divided into black belt and leucorrhea. A black belt is a joke, and a leucorrhea is a beginner. Between black belt and leucorrhea (1~3), most schools have tea belts. Some schools used to have green, yellow and cyan ribbons, but today they have become universal. Different schools have differences in level and ribbon. The traditional empty-handed level is recognized by the All-Japan Karate League.

The title of karate is Fan Shi, priest (Da Shi) and teacher, which was originally awarded by the Great Japan Wushu Association. 1945 After Japan surrendered, it was dissolved under the order of the United Nations Supreme Commander General Command (GHQ/SCAP). Since then, it has been awarded by various schools or churches.

teaching method

In the era of Ryukyu Kingdom, karate was taught in secret, often in the dead of night or in sparsely populated places (such as cemeteries). This is to avoid being discovered by Samoan servants. So there was no Dojo at that time, and the number of teachers and apprentices was very small.

Different from Japanese Wushu in the same period, Ryukyu Wushu, represented by karate, has no special martial arts books, but is passed down through word of mouth and practical practice. According to legend, it took three years to learn each at that time. In the Ryukyu era, players of the restricted team were used, rather than those of the free team at the beginning of the 20th century, so actual combat training was necessary.

Great changes have taken place in karate teaching since Meiji. Middle schools and normal schools in Okinawa Prefecture began to teach karate openly, with teachers and seniors practicing one-on-one. Under the direction of the coach, a large number of apprentices practice the same type at the same time. Anzhou Anheng founded the peaceful type in this period.

After entering the Taisho era, Okinawa Tangshou Club was established in Naha. At that time, the empty-handed people in Okinawa also joined the club, studying hard together for the first time and cultivating Tang hands together. In addition, Funakoshi Gichin and the Ministry published the first research book based on this period in the history of karate. After Showa, the names of karate techniques began to appear, books were published one after another, and the research on group players continued to deepen and tried hard. The grading system and ribbon system of karate are recognized, and the practice system is gradually rationalized. Empty-handed artists have set up their own Dojo to teach more disciples.

However, with the modernization of karate and the introduction of western body movements and sports theories, the introspection of empty-handed people has been aroused. Nowadays, there is an upsurge of re-understanding and re-evaluating ancient biography and empty-handed Okinawa.
