What is the TCM pathogenesis of cauda equina nerve injury?

There are no names of diseases such as "nerve", "peripheral nerve", "nerve injury" and "peripheral nerve injury" in ancient Chinese medicine books, but the function of peripheral nerve and various manifestations after injury have long been described in ancient Chinese medicine books. Functionally, peripheral nerves are similar to "meridian tendons" in the category of meridians, and their symptoms after injury are similar to "tendon injury", "arthralgia syndrome" and "flaccidity syndrome" in traditional Chinese medicine.

The liver is the main reinforcement, and the liver blood is full, then the tendons are nourished, the liver and kidney are homologous, and the tendons are attached to the bones. Therefore, liver and kidney loss and bone marrow weakness often lead to the occurrence and development of tendon injury diseases. As mentioned earlier, peripheral nerve injury is also related to liver and kidney dysfunction. There is a saying in traditional Chinese medicine that "the collaterals are blocked after a long period of time", and it is believed that this disease is mostly caused by the lack of vital qi and the invasion of cold and dampness, which leads to the unsmooth operation of qi and blood and the blockage of meridians. Peripheral neuropathy caused by some diseases has a long course and is difficult to heal. Collateral stasis plays an important role in the occurrence and development of its lesions.

Most patients have abnormal hemodynamics, and patients usually have clinical symptoms such as numbness, pain and chills. The change of qi and blood in nerve injury is deficiency and excess, in fact, it is qi stagnation and blood stasis, and deficiency lies in qi deficiency and less blood. After the injury, the tendon is cut off and blocked by the tunnel, which will inevitably lead to blood stasis, while qi is stagnant due to blood stasis, so the disease is more serious than qi stagnation, just like general trauma. Neuroma and scar cord can be formed after nerve injury, which seriously affects the repair of injured nerve, similar to blood stasis in traditional Chinese medicine, and is another reason why blood stasis is more important than blood stasis. After nerve injury, due to the discontinuity of qi and blood, the warmth of qi and the nourishment of blood are lost instantly at the injured place, and qi and blood are the key to rehabilitation. The repair of nerve injury needs the continuous encouragement and warm nourishment of qi, and the blood consumption of this disease is not serious, so the deficiency of qi and blood is mainly qi deficiency.
