Chengwu is located in the southwest of Shandong Province, on the south bank of Wanfu River, in the southeast of Heze City, at the junction of Shandong, Jiangsu, Henan and Anhui provinces, bordering Jinxiang County and Shan County in the east, facing Dangshan County in Anhui Province, facing Shangqiu in Henan Province in the south and Lankao in Henan Province in the west.
Suntech, Dingdang and Zaocao pass through the territory. Dongyu River runs through the middle of the county, up to the Yellow River and down to Nansi Lake.
