Migration distribution of the surname Yu

In the Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, Yu Cheng, Yu Yi, Yu Dun, Yu Liang, Yu Yi, Yu Bing, Yu Wenjun, and Yu Daolian were from Yanling, Yingchuan, Henan Province. This means that the ancestor of the Yu family served as Sikong and assisted Liu in the Han Dynasty. The pre-1972 version of the Chinese Xinhua Dictionary explains the word "Yu" as "Dayu Ridge", at the junction of Guangdong and Jiangxi Provinces. According to the Records of the Yu Family in Guangdong, the ancestor of the Yu surname in Guangdong was Yu Dongyang, who served in the Song Dynasty. He came to Guangdong from Nanjing during the Yuanyou period of the Northern Song Dynasty, served as the envoy of the Guangnan Road Manager, and brought his family to Yangcheng. The second generation Yu Guanjing was promoted to Guangnan East Road during the Zhenghe period of the Song Dynasty. Seeing the beautiful scenery of Dongguan, he moved to Dongguan Tea Garden (today's Chashan Town) and named the place Yujiafang. Around the 25th year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1392), the eighth generation Sun Yu Dexin and his father moved from Yujiafang in Tea Garden to Guyong (Chong) to avoid disaster, and then branched to Qishi Village in Benyong.
