Minjiang College is a full-time public undergraduate college in Fujian Province approved by the Ministry of Education. The college is located in Fuzhou University Town, the capital of Fujian Province. The college covers an area of more than 2,500 mu, with a total construction area of 370,000 square meters and more than 0.7 million students/kloc-0. At the foot of Qishan Mountain and the bank of Minjiang River, a campus with unique landscape, elegant taste, beautiful green cages, lush greenery, lakes and mountains, birds and flowers, modern architecture and natural environment has sprung up.
In 2003, the College was awarded the honorary title of Fujian Civilized School by Fujian Provincial Party Committee and Fujian Provincial People's Government. In the first half of 2006, the college won the honorary title of advanced university in Party building and ideological and political work in Fujian Province, successfully passed the undergraduate teaching qualification assessment, and was approved by the Fujian Academic Degrees Committee as a bachelor's degree awarding unit.
The college now has 6 departments 16, and 5 1 undergraduate majors (including professional direction), including Chinese, foreign languages, mathematics, physics and electronic information engineering, computer science, tourism, management, clothing and art engineering, art, geography, chemistry and chemical engineering, history, law, economy and finance, music and automobile. The College also has Adult Education College, Software Talent Training Base (Software Engineering College) and Ai En Shida College (jointly run with Australian university of tasmania and other schools). In 2006, it is planned to recruit 5,000 students from 25 provinces and cities across the country, including 3,000 undergraduates and 2,000 specialists.
The college has a strong faculty, with more than 700 full-time teachers among the existing faculty members 1 100. Teachers with senior titles account for more than half of the total number of teachers, and teachers with graduate degrees or above account for 62% of the total number of teachers. Foreign teachers from the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan and other countries are invited to teach in our college all the year round, and dozens of well-known experts and scholars at home and abroad, such as mathematician Lin Qun, astrophysicist Chen Jiansheng and other academicians 10, and Professor Cheng Xiuguang, president of Korea Institute of Fashion Technology, are also invited as visiting professors. The college has a modern teaching public resource system such as network, library and laboratory, as well as a fully functional cultural and sports activity place. The library has a collection of1150,000 volumes (including 400,000 e-books), and its electronic and information level ranks among the top universities in the province. With a total area of nearly 50,000 square meters, the teaching laboratory building is equipped with satellite ground receiving station, computer laboratory, polymer laboratory, remote sensing and geographic information system laboratory, clothing material laboratory, computer music laboratory and computer graphic design room, making it the most complete university in Fuzhou University Town.
Minjiang College will continue to improve the teaching quality, realize the transformation from scale expansion to quality improvement and from extension development to connotation improvement by means of connotation development, and strive to build the college into a high-level and distinctive multi-disciplinary undergraduate university based in Fuzhou, facing the whole province, radiating the whole country, going abroad and going international, focusing on teaching, attaching importance to scientific research and aiming at cultivating applied and compound talents.
