China Library for Nationalities, a national center library for nationalities, opened in September. 1959. In April, 1989, 1989, the library of the former National Cultural Palace was renamed as China National Library with the approval of the State Ethnic Affairs Commission and the Ministry of Culture of People's Republic of China (PRC). China Library for Nationalities is located in the garden-style courtyard of Beijing National Culture Palace, with an area of 2,700 square meters and nearly 100 reading seats. It is a rare closed stack room in China.

At present, there are interview and cataloging department, collection and reading department, research and development department and other departments, and the staff come from Han, Mongolian, Hui, Tibetan, Uygur, Korean, Yi, Manchu, Shui and other ethnic groups.

Over the years, China Library for Nationalities is famous for its rich collections and unique ethnic characteristics. There are more than 500,000 books, mainly Chinese literature, supplemented by foreign literature. There are more than 654.38+07,000 kinds of ancient books in minority languages, many of which are special documents and unique books. There are many kinds of ethnic documents in the collection, including 24 kinds of Mongolian, Tibetan, Uighur, Kazakh and Korean. English, Russian, Japanese, German and other foreign languages 14.

In the special collection of China Library for Nationalities, there are rare books, engravings, rubbings and maps of various national languages, as well as rare and ancient original works and bodhi leaves. There are a large number of local chronicles, historical records, national history, chronicles and biographies in China ancient books, some of which are isolated. Such as "Brief Introduction of Gansu Province" and "Records of the North City of Xichang". In addition, there are extremely precious golden warehouses, which were carved in the early Yuan Dynasty. It is one of the original editions of China's Tripitaka. Among the ancient books in ethnic languages, there are Mongolian, Tibetan, Manchu, Yi, water and other languages, and there are thousands of packages and tens of thousands of ancient books in Tibetan alone. Among these ancient Tibetan treasures are Red History, Biography of Panditha Gongga in Sakya and so on. Other national classics include Mongolian Maxim of Genghis Khan, Yi-Yi-Zhi-Southwest, Shui Shu and Xixia Buddhist Scriptures.

The rich and unique collection system of China Library for Nationalities not only won the reputation of "National Classics Hall", but also provided a solid material foundation for carrying forward the ancient cultures of all ethnic groups in China and developing multi-level and high-quality domestic reader services.

First of all, the library actively carries out various services such as borrowing, reading through and postal borrowing, and can receive more than 10,000 readers at home and abroad every year.

Secondly, there are dozens of modern equipment such as miniature cameras, photocopiers and microcomputers, which have made efforts to develop literature resources. Since 198 1, dozens of books with more than 300,000 volumes have been copied and published, covering 30 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in China. In addition, the library has also edited and published some books, such as Memorabilia of Ethnic Work in People's Republic of China (PRC), Overview of Minority Libraries in China and China Ethnic Yearbook (1995 -2003). Since 1983, training courses and advanced courses for librarians in ethnic areas have been held successively to cultivate talents in various ways.

On the other hand, international exchanges are increasing year by year. It has received government officials, library scholars, academic groups, ethnic and religious figures from Japan, the United States, Britain, India, Italy, Australia, Germany, Nepal, Thailand, Hungary, Iran, Mongolia, North Korea and Kyrgyzstan, as well as Tibetans living abroad and compatriots from Taiwan Province, Hong Kong and Australia, and sent personnel to visit Hungary.
