On January 3th, 1965, the Chinese Ministry of Culture and the China Character Reform Commission issued a List of Chinese Characters for Printing, and on March 18th, 1988, the Press and Publication Administration of state language commission, the Chinese People's Republic of China issued a List of Chinese Characters for Modern Chinese, which stipulated five basic strokes.
The five strokes respectively represent horizontal category (including all forms of long horizontal, short horizontal, horizontal hook and horizontal lift), vertical category (including all forms of long vertical, short vertical and vertical hook), apostrophe category (including all forms of points left off), dot category (including all points left off) and folding category (including all horizontal folding, vertical folding and folding). All Chinese character strokes fall into the above five categories.
