Liu Yi Iwatani's calligraphy is empty and quiet.

Japanese calligraphy master Iwatani's inscription "Xu Kui Sutra of Zhai Hao" has been mounted. This is a work after the age of 60 (as evidenced by the seal "Made after Flowers"), with a heart shape of 34.5cmx67cm, which is well preserved and hard to meet.

? Liu Yi Iwatani (1834- 1905), also known as Iwatani Xiu, was one of the most famous calligraphers in Meiji period and a proud pupil of Yang Shoujing. In the 24th year of Meiji (189 1), members of the House of Lords were elected. In Meiji 13 (1880), Yang Shoujing studied calligraphy with He Ming in Yayoi Kusama. His calligraphy style showed obvious characteristics of Wei Bei's calligraphy, with bold structure and smooth brushwork.
