Character experience

Wang Banzai, 1933, was admitted to the National Beiping Art College. He is smart and eager to learn, deeply loved by Qi Baishi, and studied under Huang He and Wen Yiduo. The old man Baishi once printed "semi-stupid" for his husband, but later changed his name to "Sakamoto" because of the homophonic "semi-stupid". From 65438 to 0937, Mr. Wang graduated from Beiping Art College and held a solo exhibition in Beiping, showing more than 80 paintings. Sixty of them were inscribed by Qi Baishi, which caused a sensation in the old capital. After graduating from Beiping Art College, Mr. Wang ventured to Guangdong and Henan to make a living, and also made propaganda in the third hall led by Mr. Guo Moruo, but he failed. In the 1940s, he came to Nanjing, the old capital of the Six Dynasties. Yinyangying made a living by growing vegetables for generations, just like the vegetable seller in The Scholars.

It was not until 1949 that Mr. Wang came back from selling vegetables and happened to meet his cousin Zheng Ping. At this time, Zheng Ping was the first organization minister of Subei Administrative Office in China. This unexpected meeting changed Mr. Wang's life track. At Zheng Ping's suggestion, Mr. Wang went to East China Revolutionary University to study. 1950, he finished his studies at Revolutionary University and came to work in Yangzhou. He used to be a literary editor in northern Jiangsu, a teacher in northern Jiangsu Party School and a teacher in Yangzhou Middle School. 1960, Yangzhou traditional Chinese painting academy was established. 1962, Mr. Wang was transferred to the Painting Academy, and he embarked on the road of professional creation and became a national first-class artist.

works

Mr. Wang is good at China painting and calligraphy, and his works have been exhibited or published at home and abroad for many times. Collected by museums and memorial halls, Wang Banzai's Selected Paintings was published. His works include Osmanthus fragrans and Pine Tree. Member of China Calligraphers Association and China Artists Association. He used to be vice chairman of Beijing Qi Baishi Art Development Center and honorary professor of Correspondence College, consultant of Yangzhou Painting School in Qing Dynasty, and honorary president of Rizhao Painting and Calligraphy Institute. It is included in China Dictionary of Modern Artists, China Dictionary of Artists and China Dictionary of Artists and Celebrities. 1On July 26th, 994, Mr. Wang died of illness in Yangzhou.

Personal life

On the ancient street in Dongguan, Yangzhou, there is an ancient house garden, adjacent to a garden in the east. The gate of the escape garden is octagonal, and the word "escape garden" is engraved on the forehead. Puyi used to be the seat of Yangzhou Traditional Chinese Painting Academy, and now it is a provincial-level cultural relics protection unit. For a long time, a tall old painter went in and out of Puyi. He was Wang Banzai.

Wang has been tall and witty for half a year. I still remember that one year during the Spring Festival, my father, Mr. Ren Wei, and I went to our ancestral home in Shi Kefa to pay a New Year call to several old painters in the Chinese Painting Academy. My father was one of the leading figures in Yangzhou cultural circles at that time. As soon as I entered the gate of Shi Kefa's ancestral home, I saw a tall old man, wearing a black woolen coat, already standing in the hall waiting. As soon as he saw us come in, he greeted us with a smile and shook hands with us warmly. My father said to me, "This is Mr. Wang Banzai." Hearing this familiar name, I quickly stepped forward and shook his big hand and said, "Hello, Wang Lao!" " "Of course, my father also introduced Wang Banzhai to me and said," This is a child's Minghua. Wang looked at me carefully for a while and said with a Shandong accent, "What a handsome young man! "At that time, the Cultural Revolution was not over yet, and he finally didn't say that I was a good son in troubled times.

In the late period of the Cultural Revolution, Yangzhou's cultural centers, libraries, Chinese painting academies and museums were merged into "Mao Zedong Thought Propaganda Hall", with his father as the curator. Wang Banzai, as a painter of the former Chinese Painting Academy, worked under my father. My father arranged them to paint in the square hall behind Shi Kefa's ancestral home. The walls here are all glass windows, bright, quiet and serene, which is also a rare "safe haven" in the war-torn years. Wang Banzai and other old painters are enjoying paintings and calligraphy here, and they are also entertaining themselves. Many of his handed down works were created at that time.

Perhaps it is to thank my father for taking care of him. Every time I see my father, he always says he wants to send pictures. Father knows that Wang is old for half a year and never urges him. Soon, Mr. Wang Banzai died, and he finally failed to fulfill his promise to his father.

At that time, the exchange of calligraphy and painting between literati was completely "a paper of scholars" and did not contain any economic purpose or political requirements. It was not until Mr. Wang Banzai's later years that the painting and calligraphy market in Yangzhou started and his paintings entered the market. I heard that some embarrassing things are not satisfactory. For example, once, someone ordered six flower-and-bird paintings from Wang Banzai, and everyone felt very good after painting. But the buyer thinks it is "too light" and wants to return it. Wang Banzai was helpless, adding flowers here and worms there. In this way, the buyer smiled and the painter's painting was completed. Because the charm, personality and style of a painter are reflected in the habitual spatial distribution accumulated by the painter for a long time, it is not enough to spend more and less. The "lightness" that buyers dislike is actually the essence of China's painting spirit.

dependent event

One thing still reminds me of Mr. Wang Banzai. In the early 1980s, my father and I wrote a book called History of Yangzhou Quyi, which was published by China Quyi Publishing House. Before publication, a famous writer needs to be invited to write the book name, so my father wants to invite Mr. Wang Banzai to write it. That day, my father went to the Wangs' house and told them his thoughts for half a year. He readily agreed. A few days later, he sent me the written topic, which was vigorous and powerful in one go. When the History of Yangzhou Quyi was published, Mr. Wang Banzai's words were used on the cover.

I have a cursive script written by Mr. Wang Banzai, which is copied from a passage by Mr. Lu Xun: "It is too respectful to learn from the ancient ways, and it is quite disgusting. I think that if the teacher is absurd, I might as well rebel, but if the teacher is innocent, I can't take the opportunity to throw stones to save myself in order to get the will of the enemy. " For this passage, see Lu Xun's Letter to Cao Juren, and then there is a sentence: "Mr. Taiyan once taught me primary school, but later I dare not see him again because he advocated vernacular Chinese. Later, he advocated throwing pots and stealing hearts, but when the Kuomintang wanted to confiscate his broken houses, I really couldn't laugh at the authorities. " When Wang Banzai wrote this passage of Lu Xun, it was during the Cultural Revolution. At that time, many people betrayed their teachers and friends, their personalities and their souls. Obviously, this passage he wrote has different meanings.

Wang Banzai's poems and paintings

Mr. Wang Banzai's painting and calligraphy style has a great relationship with Yangzhou's humanistic environment. His calligraphy is mainly attributed to Yangzhou people Li Beihai and Li Futang. Li Beihai and Li Yong were great calligraphers in the early Tang Dynasty. His calligraphy is called "strange and stubborn" and "silver hook and iron painting" Li, one of the eight eccentrics in Qing Dynasty, has the reputation of "writing like a cloud" and "full of paper and clear water". According to experts, Wang Banzai's 40-year artistic career in Yangzhou can be roughly divided into two stages, with the 1970s as the watershed. It was the art recovery period before, followed by the style setting period, and the older the better.

Teaching style

Wang has not forgotten art during his teaching in Yangzhong for half a year. When talking about the poem "Qiu Si" written by Yuan people, Mr. Wang outlined the trunk covered with dead vines on the blackboard, drew bridges and villages in three strokes, then quickly drew a weak and windless winning horse, and finally embellished it with sunset, crows and riders. After painting, I wrote the poem "Qiu Si" on the blackboard. This work, which combines books, paintings and poems, takes less than five minutes. Then, while mounting it, he explained: "The twenty-eight characters of Yuanling are scenery and emotion. You see, classmates, the twilight is heavy, and the old trees covered with dead vines stand silently. " Following his fingers, while enjoying it, some students recited: "The dead vine and the old tree are faint crows, the bridges are flowing, the ancient roads are sparse, the sun is setting, and the heartbroken people are at the end of the world." This teaching method makes students feel at home.

The structure of the work

Wang Banzai's later works are simple in composition, dripping with ink, clever in writing and profound in color. The flowers, trees, insects and flying saucers in his works, as if they were not painted, often give people an illusion, as if they had walked into the flowers in Yuanye. His later works often give people a casual sense of action. It is said that he often talks to himself while painting. But careful taste and meticulous brushwork make everyone look good, reaching the realm of "Yoga Yu is better without intention" and "works without intention". No wonder some people say that there are so many descendants of the Qi school, and only two people can be called everyone, one is Wang for half a year. Li Kuchan's paintings show the external tension of the old man Baishi, who can take advantage of chaos, while Wang Banzai's paintings benefit from the introverted power of the old man Baishi, who can be good at bamboo slips.

Wang Banzai's calligraphy can be seen everywhere. Gaoyou Wang Memorial Hall has a half-year title of Wang: "Father and son are scholars, and Chinese and foreign people admire them;" Gaoyou Langya is a different generation of Guang Qi. "There is a sentence written by Youdao Qian in West Lake, Hangzhou. Wang Banzai wrote a couplet:" Ziyun narrow road is boundless; The falling rocks are silent. "The predecessor of Yangzhou Port is the border port. What impressed me the most in those years was not the architecture of the port, but the three Chinese characters of Yangzhou Port inscribed by Mr. Wang Banzai. Later, when there was a new inscription in the port, the inscription of Wang Banzai was removed.

Posterity evaluation

After the death of Mr. Wang Banzai, Mr. Li held Wang Banzai in his arms: "The masters of the arts are the descendants of Baishi and are immortal; The gallery is a bosom friend, and it is old all its life. I can't stand years of withering. " It can be regarded as a critical comment on Mr. Wang Banzai's art. Mr. Wang Banzai painted an artistic life for himself with his elegant pen. His character and paintings are still very admirable.
