Humble Pursuit —— Fu Hao and His Calligraphy Impression

Fu Hao was my classmate when I was studying in China Academy of Fine Arts. Maybe our experiences are similar. Both of them come from the countryside and have deep feelings for planting their own scenery. So, we both studied landscape painting. Maybe we both love calligraphy, and we are similar in age, method and aesthetics. So we will chat and exchange calligraphy and painting together, cut to the chase directly, and lose some boring rituals. Although the time is only a short semester, I was deeply impressed by his humble and low-key personality and flying calligraphy.

For anyone who is engaged in or loves art, I have always stubbornly believed that a person's talent in a certain aspect is very important for success. In many of Fu Hao's works I have seen, I firmly believe that talent is the most important foundation for a person who loves art. Although I don't deny the simple truth that diligence can make up for mistakes, I don't believe that a person without artistic talent can become an excellent artist through hard work. Fu Hao is talented, which I think is mainly manifested in his understanding and creation of calligraphy. According to his own account, his early love for calligraphy was a kind of self-righteous graffiti, which can be described as ignorance, regardless of Wei and Jin Dynasties. This seemingly tortuous self-exploration actually has certain positive significance. Therefore, in 2004, he was lucky enough to attend a calligraphy workshop organized by the province. After listening to some celebrities explain some core problems about calligraphy, he began to understand. Since then, he has continuously participated in various exhibitions of the China Book Association, making everyone excited for him. On the other hand, I think he has his own ideas in pen and ink. The reason why contemporary calligraphy is spectacular is mainly because the unique lyricism of cursive script is suitable for the emotional catharsis of contemporary people, which makes us feel the same strain in the fast-paced real life. Then, it is very necessary and realistic to show his personality and talent among a large number of cursive writers, because a grassroots calligrapher does not have many advantages compared with academic calligraphers, so he can only use his real pen and ink to gain the recognition of the judges. His calligraphy is good at cursive. Contemporary cursive script has always maintained a strong advantage in our traditional cultural identity, but there are also some people looking for life in the combination of inscriptions and calligraphy. Fu Hao takes the monument as the skeleton, writes the declining life satisfaction with a heroic passion, and at the same time naturally blends into a patchwork of monuments, especially when we appreciate the northwest.

Sometimes I think that his works, although flying in the thick and elegant in the simplicity, are always careful and meticulous, just like his character, and he is serious but not rigid in everything. Even if his classmates get together to make a toast, he will sincerely hiss and grasp it accurately, and will never easily lose his principle of self because of temperament.

Fu Hao is also very thoughtful. The idea I am talking about here not only refers to the ideal of life, but also includes one's understanding, views and attitudes towards artistic life. Fu Hao was born in an ordinary peasant family in Shaanxi. For such a humble person, from a certain point of view, it is really difficult to love art. After all, at that school age, economic, material and cultural aspects seem to have nothing to do with art, which is naturally not conducive to the growth of art seeds. Therefore, he is humble about art, but at the same time, it may be precisely because he was born in the countryside and is close to natural mountains and rivers that we have a more direct and real understanding of art in our hearts. Therefore, many years later, we will still cling to mountains and rivers and let our souls inhabit that quiet world. He is glad that he has chosen art and is lucky to be here today. He always looks for pen and ink devoutly, but he is full of tension and confidence between writing and writing.

Of course, as a young calligrapher, judging from his current creation, I personally think there are at least two issues worthy of attention: on the one hand, language style. This is an important proposition for every artist, especially young artists who will not be confused in 2008. Judging from his works, it should be said that his works have a little bit of his own ideas and rudiments, but compared with a mature calligrapher, they are obviously not old enough and have great room for development. On the other hand, it is the problem of reading more books. Li Rihua, a Ming Dynasty man, said in Mo Junming: "When painting, you must read more books, and you should see more important events in ancient and modern times. You should not be narrow-minded and broad-minded. The mountains and rivers are wonderful, isn't it beautiful when it falls? " It's about painting, but so is calligraphy. Therefore, Dongpo layman also said: "There are ten thousand volumes in the chest, and the gas of books naturally overflows between the lines."

As the executive director of Shaanxi Young Calligraphers Association, Fu Hao can be sure that he has won a place for himself with pen and ink and cleverness, but the studious Fu Hao is not satisfied with his current success, so he chose to study in the south and is still looking for it. May Fu Hao climb high and make great strides. We have reason to believe that in the near future, Fu Hao will be able to break the cocoon into a butterfly and write a more touching chapter with his own pen and ink!

Secondly,

Fu Hao is a diligent, intelligent and talented young calligrapher. In today's commodity economy and society, it is rare to love calligraphy, and it is even more difficult for his works to enter the national exhibition many times! His works are magnificent, natural and unrestrained, simple and smart, elegant in brushwork, hearty and refreshing. If you borrow the words of the ancients, it is "innovation in statutes, bold and unrestrained." -Li Wei
