Born in 1946, he is the son of Chen Tanke (also known as Zhifu), and his mother’s surname is Han (from Yangmeidu, Xiushui). Grandson of Chen Sanli's younger brother Chen Sanwei. When he was two years old, he was introduced by Ye Gongchuo and was sent to the Chen family in Tianjin for foster care by his father. Because of the war, transportation between the north and the south was blocked, and the entire Chen family lost contact.
The Chen family in Tianjin were compradors in the railway business. Shortly after liberation, Chen Yunjun's adoptive father was sent to prison, and he lived among relatives. He didn't know much about his own life experience, "I just always felt that he wasn't so considerate and considerate." It was not until the eve of the "Cultural Revolution", when the "Four Olds" were to be destroyed, that his adoptive mother took out a stack of letters and said to him: "It's hard to say what the situation will be like in the future. I will tell you your life experience while I am here today. If you have any intention in the future, , you can go and visit your family." The adoptive mother read the letter to Chen Yunjun and threw the letter he read into the brazier. From the letter, Chen Yunjun learned that his biological father was Chen Tanke and his biological mother's surname was Han.
The sudden knowledge of his own life experience was a big shock to the young Chen Yunjun. Soon, his adoptive mother passed away and he was assigned to a factory. He didn't like worker life and felt out of place. Because he loved traditional culture since he was a child, he studied with calligraphy master Wu Yuru and learned classical poetry and calligraphy. For Chen Yunjun at this time, immersing himself in Chinese classical culture was a great relief. Later, he had the opportunity to get close to Master Juzan and studied Buddhism from Liang Shuming, becoming a poet and calligrapher without academic qualifications.
In 1982, Chen Yunjun opened Maolin Calligraphy School in Tianjin. At that time in China, this was the first school run by social forces. He found a leader of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference to be the dean, appointed himself as deputy dean, compiled textbooks and taught classes by himself. After that, he went to work as the director of the editorial office of Tianjin Ancient Books Bookstore. Since he didn't have to work, he could study by himself. "I have been studying every day for more than 20 years from the time I was in my twenties to the age of 48," Chen Yunjun said. "Poetry, calligraphy and painting seem to be a natural thing for me."
He He also loves drinking tea and burning incense, and has published monographs on the appreciation of Zen tea and sandalwood. Regarding his living conditions, he often said that although he lived in a new society, his academic views, historical views and even his outlook on life were probably still based on Confucian orthodoxy. "This is the tradition of the Chen family, from Chen Baozhen to Chen Yinke," Chen Yunjun said. "Although I didn't grow up in the Chen family, this cultural gene has always influenced me."
