Source: According to "Etymology": The word "You" has appeared in oracle bone inscriptions of the Shang Dynasty. It is used to hold a straight stick, a stick with a fork or a handle to hit people, which means "hitting". By the Western Zhou Dynasty, three changes had taken place. One was that a vertical pen was derived between the person and the tree, which represented the mainstream direction; the other was that three points, two points or a point of water were derived between the person and the tree; Three horizontal lines are derived from the vertical pen. During the Warring States Period, the first change disappeared, and the vertical brush between people and their hands disappeared. The second variation remains, but differs from its predecessor. There is one point disappearing between the person and the person, two points are preserved, and three points become the word "water", which means "from the person" to the water, and the person disappears. When "Shuowen" was sorting out Xiaozhuan, it restored the author's vertical line between human and Gao (Xu Shen analyzed that the writing was from Cai to Ren and Shui Sheng, which was a reconstruction of the rationale), and considered it to be the correct style; it preserved the character of Cao from Shui. After the official change, the regular scripts were written as "[氵洴]" and "you" respectively. Nowadays, "you" is commonly used, and "[氵洴]" is rarely used.
