Reading is also a systematic project

Reading is also a systematic project. You need to set aside part of the 24 hours to read; you also need to learn how to choose books; learn how to judge whether a book is worth reading; and learn how to read, How to take notes; you also need to find a way to solve the problem of forgetting; you also need to have an acceptance system to check whether you have understood a book and whether you have applied it to yourself.

Many times, it’s not that we don’t have time to read, but that we don’t pay attention to reading at all. Maybe we say that reading is necessary, but in fact we really don’t pay attention to it in our hearts. Because even if you finish reading a practical book, it will only work if you practice it. And even if it does work, it will take some time to show up. In other words, reading is to prepare for your future self. But most people don’t actually pay attention to the future. They only focus on what’s happening now, and they don’t think things in the future are important. There is even a term “future discount” to explain this phenomenon.

It’s the same for me. I haven’t read many books in the past year. But in the past two months, I realized this problem and started my reading plan. Set a certain amount of money to buy books every month and a fixed time to read every day. Usually, after finishing meditation exercises and English reading exercises in the morning, you start spending one or two Pomodoros reading. As a result, within 48 days, I had read 18 books and wrote some summary thoughts on Weibo every day. Of course, most of the books I read now are practical books, and the content is relatively easy to understand.

This reading experience also made me understand that as long as I buy books in advance and arrange reading in my schedule, I can have time to read. Moreover, the progress of reading is beyond my imagination before. When you really take reading seriously, you will find that the speed will be faster than you imagined. There are many things, as long as we do them, we will find that they are not as difficult as we originally thought. I will also lament why I didn’t do it before.

You should find the book list yourself, and as long as you search for it, you will definitely find it, because there must have been many people who have read books on related topics before you, and some of them will definitely be able to write Articles such as book reviews, recommendations, etc. Some people will even directly put the books they have read into articles after finishing reading on related topics. For example, after I finished reading on the topic of "time management", I put the ten books I read in the appendix in the article.

The ability to select books needs to be accumulated gradually. As long as you try it a few times, you will find that asking others for a book list directly will harm you because:

Here are three experiences I have accumulated in the process of selecting books:

Checking the copyright page is also the fastest way to select a book. For example, when I was choosing books about the Analects of Confucius on Amazon, Amazon recommended six books. I looked directly at the copyright page and found that only Yang Bojun's book had been printed more than ten times, while the other books had only been printed once. So I directly bought Yang Bojun's "Analects of Confucius".

When reading a book, you must first start with the preface and table of contents, because after reading these two parts, you can form a framework for the book and roughly know what each chapter wants to do, and what is going on between chapters. What's the logic?

When looking at the table of contents, you can also mark the chapters that interest you most. If you are reading on a topic, you can also directly find the chapters related to your topic in the table of contents.

Limiting time and purpose can stimulate the secretion of dopamine, thereby deepening memory.

Speed ??reading actually refers to quickly picking out the content that is important to you and then reading it intensively. Reading speed is actually based on your own understanding. If the book is easy to understand, you will naturally read it quickly. It’s hard to understand. No matter how fast you are, like some books say that you use your fingers to move quickly to drive eye movements, what’s the use of reading like this?

Many people learn to read quickly because they think there are so many books to read. If they cannot learn to read quickly, it will be too late. This is just like developing a habit. Many people just feel that there are so many habits that need to be developed, and they are afraid that they will not be able to do it in time, so they want to develop four or five habits at the same time. The result is that no one can be raised.

The same is true for reading. If you read little, read patiently. After reading a hundred books, especially after reading by theme, the speed will naturally increase.

In addition to reading word for word, the intensive reading method can also read aloud or even copy the content that you think is particularly good. These methods actually allow you to have more dimensional experiences to deepen your memory and understanding.

The purpose of taking notes is to allow you to mark the words that inspire you and record your thoughts in a timely manner. This will not only deepen your memory, but also save time in re-reading, and prepare for subsequent output.

There are usually four steps:

When reading, make some notes when you encounter inspiring sentences. Underline, put a question mark, or write down your thoughts first, and then fold a corner of the page for easy search later. If it is very important, you can fold both the upper and lower solutions. Of course, you can also use sticky notes or combine the two methods. The specific method is not important, the important thing is to mark it in time.

You can think of the table of contents as a map of this book, but the original map is still a bit crude. If you add some keywords or related conclusions, or some analogies or allusions that you think are good, In terms of directory, it is equivalent to having a detailed map of your own. When you look at this map, you can clearly understand what this book is about.

I will put a sticky note on the table of contents page, so that I can turn directly to the table of contents page when needed, which can save a lot of time. When making up the detailed table of contents, it is best to use the "note-taking method at a glance", that is, after reading the content, print it in your mind and then write it on the table of contents, rather than copying it while reading. Going through it in your head first can help with memory.

After reading a book and marking it, we can start writing "onion and tuna hot pot style" reading notes. The specific format is as follows:

After all, the catalog is not suitable for excerpting large paragraphs and writing large paragraphs of reflections. So we still need to write a separate reading note.

The "One-Year Note-taking Method" is a method proposed in "How to Effectively Read a Book, Super Practical Note-taking Reading Method", which is to prepare only one notebook and write notes in chronological order. Then use keywords such as "[Reading Notes]["Book Title"][Author]" to create an index. Of course, the content of notes is not limited to reading notes. It can be temporary reflections, daily summaries, and other papers can also be attached. The purpose is to allow you to record every day. If you prepare a separate notebook by subject, not only will the number of notebooks you have to maintain increase, but some notebooks cannot be recorded every day, making it difficult to develop the habit of recording.

Just take out a notebook each week and review all the notes you took that week. Regular review can not only deepen your memory, but also bring unexpected feelings and gains.

The advantage of digitizing notes is that they can be viewed anytime, anywhere, and there is no chance of losing the notebook. But the biggest advantage is that it can be retrieved quickly. When the number of notes increases, the most time-consuming thing is searching. Electronicization can reduce this time to a certain extent.

Wouldn’t it be a pity if you spent so much time reading a book only to forget it all after a while? What is a pity is not the money we spend on books, but the time and attention we consume.

The most effective method is to output multiple times, and try multi-dimensional output.

The usual output methods are as follows:

1. Take notes

2. Share the daily summary to Weibo and WeChat

The advantage of making it public is that it forces you to write seriously. If you just read it yourself, you may be able to cope with the problem.

Although some books mention that reading before bed can not only deepen your memory but also help you fall asleep faster, there is no scientific basis for this. But why not try? It's better than playing on your phone before going to bed.

What we have to do is read with questions. First pick an issue or topic that interests you, and then search for related books. After reading these books, you may have new questions, so just keep going and repeat the process.

The knowledge structure is formed in the process of continuously solving these problems. Building and improving your own knowledge system is like building your own fortress in a dense forest, and then you can explore the entire knowledge forest more purposefully and efficiently.

The way we carve out the first path is actually thematic reading.

Steps of thematic reading:

Reading is meaningful only if it changes and grows in oneself.
