Wu Changshuo's former residence (East Hall) is a two-story and three-story building with brick and wood structure. The five golden characters "Wu Changshuo's Former Residence" on the lintel are shining brightly, which were inscribed by the painter Wang Geyi.
Qianjin Pingwu is an exhibition hall of Wu's historical relics, which displays Wu's family history map and the tombstone of "Wu's father and son four scholars" unearthed in Jiajing period of Ming Dynasty, reflecting the development of Wu's family since it moved to Zhejiang in the Southern Song Dynasty. Opposite the yard is the main building. On the left is Wu Changshuo's parents' bedroom. A century and a half ago, a master of art was born here. Later, he galloped like a rafter and shone the most dazzling light in the starry sky of art.
The central hall is a typical Chinese living room with a wisteria painting on it, which was made by Wu Changshuo's grandson and Shanghai painter Wu Changye. Both sides were written by You Ren, a great calligrapher during the Republic of China, and the couplets written by Wu Minxian, the great grandson of Wu Changshuo: "Poetry and calligraphy are printed like people, and stunts fly all over the world; From the Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties to the Republic of China, there have been hundreds of romantic families. "
On the second floor, Wu Changshuo's study is in the easternmost part. Narrow windows, quaint desks, homemade meat cutters and pen holders and other furnishings show that this is the place where the art giants are boating in the art sea! The "Studio" at the west end of the second floor shows the prosperity of the Wu family and Wu Changshuo's life track with rich pictures.
Since the reform and opening up, the Party and the government have attached great importance to the restoration of Wu Changshuo's former residence, and allocated funds every year to gradually restore it. 1997 formulated the scheme of "Wu Changshuo Former Residence Restoration Project (Series)"; In 2002, more than 2 million yuan was invested to relocate 26 houses inside and outside the former residence, laying a solid foundation for the implementation of the plan. Wu Changshuo's former residence has now become an important window for foreign cultural exchanges in Anji County.
