In his later years, Fan Yuansheng spent his time reading, practicing calligraphy, writing poems, and studying Buddhism, and he had certain Buddhist thoughts. He said himself: In his spare time, he enjoys "killing time with calligraphy, almost becoming a hobby". When he was 90 years old, he published "Fan Yuansheng's 90-year-old Huai En Calligraphy Memorial Collection". In his "Preface", he said: "The purpose is to commemorate the kindness of my parents" and "write to express my feelings." The book contains 188 calligraphy works, including 35 couplets, 62 aphorisms, and 72 famous excerpts and poems. He wrote the sentence "Long Lovesickness" written by Li Bai: "The journey is long and the soul flies away in pain, and the dream soul cannot reach Guanshan Mountain. Longing for lovesickness destroys the heart and liver." And Tang Dynasty poems: "The grass is luxuriant when it is cold and the rain is close, and the wheat seedlings are covered with wind and the willows reflect the embankment. "When you have a home and you haven't returned yet, the cuckoo will stop crying in your ears." A small note: "You said you have a home but you can't return. Did you mean to shoot everyone back then? In today's abnormal environment, cuckoos, don't crow in your ears anymore." Choked, let’s go back.” These works reflect Mr. Fan Yuansheng’s strong nostalgia and sadness of not being able to return to his hometown.
Fan Yuansheng loves to practice the following inscriptions on stele: Wang Youjun Shengjiao, Lanting's second preface, Wang Shibo's manuscript, Deng Wanzi's four-body calligraphy, Qing Taoist Diamond Sutra, and the stele of Wang Kai and Wei Zhangxuan. Comprehensive understanding, self-contained rules. Wang Kaihe once said of him: "He has been obsessed with calligraphy throughout his life. He has been diligent and impressive, and his ink is dripping. People who calligraphy are afraid of old age."
