Is the rice paper thick or thin?

Just follow your own preferences. Personally, I think it is best to choose thicker rice paper.

Xuan paper is classified according to its thickness. It can be divided into single volume (thinnest), single clip (thicker), clean leather, cotton material, clip volume (two sheets) and three-layer clip.

Apart from the classification of thin rice paper, it is probably because of poor quality or cutting corners. I have bought a lot of thin rice paper, and the quality is almost the same as toilet paper. I can't write at all. I haven't written a word yet, and the ink has soaked a large piece.

Therefore, no matter how thick the rice paper is, at least in terms of materials, it will not be tampered with by merchants. Moreover, thin Xuan paper will make the paper easier to soak, thus affecting writing.

However, is the thicker the rice paper, the better? Not exactly.

We can often see thickened rice paper in the market. Sometimes merchants promote thickening rice paper to prevent moisture.

There is nothing wrong with this in itself.

But we must make clear the type of site selection, otherwise the rice paper may be covered with ink no matter how thick it is.

In fact, there is only one relationship between paper and ink, and that is the speed of wetting and diffusion.

Xuan paper can be roughly divided into raw Xuan and cooked Xuan.

Raw rice paper is unprocessed rice paper, and the ink painting speed is fast, while the ink painting speed of cooked rice paper is slow after processing.

But if it is thicker, because of the thickness of the paper, the speed of wetting ink will not change much. Let's just say that ink won't penetrate paper.

Therefore, if you simply want to control the diffusion speed of ink on paper, you'd better choose cooked rice paper, so that even thin rice paper can control the ink speed.
