The significance of write calligraphy in New year

The so-called life needs a sense of ritual, and the Chinese New Year needs a sense of ritual. However, the sense of ceremony for the New Year is getting weaker and weaker now. Except for the increasingly rich New Year's Eve dinner, other ceremonies seem to be dispensable, and some are completely absent.

I remember there were many ceremonies during the Spring Festival, such as posting Spring Festival couplets, setting off firecrackers, burning paper money and incense to worship ancestors. In the past, Spring Festival couplets were all handwritten, and my father was a teacher. Every year before the Spring Festival, parents in the village bring red paper home early and ask their father to write Spring Festival couplets. Father didn't refuse, just waved and splashed ink, and everyone in the village praised him and thanked him. At that time, when I went to other people's homes to pay New Year's greetings, the first thing I did was to look at other people's Spring Festival couplets, see what I wrote, and what's more, comment on calligraphy. When it comes to well-written words, his father wants to copy them, and he wants to call us all to him and explain the beauty to us.

In recent years, there are fewer and fewer handwritten couplets, all of which are bought and printed. Words are big and beautiful, not only words but also pictures, big and small, long and short. Just no charm, no taste. Everyone's content is basically the same. The printed calligraphy is beautiful, but it lacks an aura. What's more, some people built new houses, stuck couplets on the wall with tiles at the gate once and for all, and even saved money on buying printed couplets. Even if the printed couplets are posted, it is only a form. Maybe many people won't read what is posted, just for such a form.

Therefore, Indian couplets are absolutely the passage of traditional culture, and people only retain this form, but not the essence. What else is there to set off firecrackers and play with fireworks, but even the form can't be kept, because firecrackers are forbidden, and there is always something missing in the quiet New Year's Eve. As for the ceremony of burning incense to worship ancestors and burning paper money, it is also dispensable for young people. If this goes on, I'm afraid there will only be New Year's Eve, and the taste of the year will get weaker and weaker.
