To Beginners of Calligraphy
1. You said you must learn regular script first. Are you sure about that? First learn regular script. Whether this statement is correct or not depends on the origin of the formation of Chinese characters. The actual order in which Chinese characters appeared was probably oracle bone script, seal script, official script, and Zhangcao. Later, cursive script, running script, regular script, and Wei stele appeared. Therefore, it makes no sense to learn regular script first. For real learning, some experts say that we should start with Han bamboo slips (the characters written on bamboo slips, unearthed at Mawangdui in Changsha, Han bamboo slips unearthed in Inner Mongolia, Henan and other places). Do you know the story of Mr. Dong Guo? (traveling with a large number of Han bamboo slips and meeting a wolf), some experts believe that learning official script first is correct and easier to start with; learning regular script is not necessarily the best plan.
2. Use a pen. There are types of writing brushes such as sheep hair, wolf hair, and jian hair. It is more suitable to use sheep hair for beginners. The so-called "big white cloud" is usually made of sheep hair and can be used. Of course, you should choose the size of the brush appropriately; a medium white cloud is enough;
3. If you are an adult, you should write while reading. The method of drawing red is not good, it is easy to make the words "dead". Only by constantly writing can you grasp the charm and spirit of ancient calligraphy;
4. Choose a good copybook. For example, when writing official script, you can choose "Ode to the Stone Gate", etc., but I recommend you first study "Cao Quan Stele". The characters of this stele are vivid, simple and beautiful, and highly practical, so it is easy to get started. The size is just like the size on the copybook. You don't have to hang your elbow when writing small characters. Your elbow should be close to the table, but you can hang your wrist to make the rhythm of the pen more flexible. The pen should be held upright and aimed at the top of your forehead to prevent it from deviating from the direction and writing crookedly.
As for study skills and lectures, it is better to listen less.
Art requires hard work and enlightenment to succeed. There is no shortcut. Most of the technique videos and books you see are money scams. These editors look like calligraphy teachers but are actually The background is very shallow, even for pheasant calligraphy enthusiasts, who have no deep cultivation at all. This is because many people do not understand calligraphy and see these people drawing blindly and smearing on paper without understanding, which ruins the art. Therefore, as a beginner, you should calm down, face the ancient copybook, grind and lay paper, and copy repeatedly until the stage progresses. Especially insisting on writing every day. The ancients said that studying books is not about studying too much, but about being uninterrupted. ——What a sincere statement!
I wish you perseverance in learning and making progress every day.
