Sichuan University of Arts and Science was founded in 1976, then known as Daxian Normal College. It was officially approved by the State Council in 1978 It was included in the ranks of national full-time colleges and universities and was named Daxian Normal College. In 1993, it was renamed Daxian Normal College. In 2006, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, it was officially upgraded to Sichuan College of Arts and Sciences. In December 1978, the Ministry of Education applied for approval from the State Council and officially included the school into the ranks of full-time colleges and universities across the country. It was named Daxian Normal College and was affiliated to the Sichuan Provincial Bureau of Higher Education. It included Chinese, foreign languages, and mathematics. There are 8 departments including Physics, Chemistry, Music, Fine Arts, and Physical Education. The schooling lasts for three years and recruits students from all over the country.
In 1987, the Department of Political History was added.
Adult higher education began in 1993, and the first batch of adult higher vocational education students were enrolled in September.

In early 2000, the school began to prepare for the construction of a new campus.

In 2002, the Department of Physical Education, Department of Education and Department of Modern Educational Technology were established; in July of the same year, the Department of Education and the Department of Modern Educational Technology were merged into the Department of Educational Science and Technology.
In April 2002, the school fully launched the construction of a new campus and the work of upgrading from junior college to bachelor's degree.

In February 2006, with the approval of the Ministry of Education and the decision of the provincial government, the school was upgraded to a multi-disciplinary provincial undergraduate college and renamed Sichuan University of Arts and Sciences; in September of the same year, the college began to independently recruit undergraduate students .
The Department of Management was established in 2006.
In August 2007, the college carried out departmental adjustments, reorganized the Department of Social Sciences and the Department of Management, and established the Department of Social Sciences and the Department of Management; separated the Department of Elementary Education from the Department of Chemistry, and established the Department of Chemistry and the Department of Management independently.
