First, don’t use rice paper!
When you start learning calligraphy, you usually start with the works of the Tang Dynasty. However, the rice paper we use now is a product after the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and it is very different from the paper used in the Tang Dynasty. It is difficult for beginners to write things from the Tang Dynasty on ordinary rice paper!
Second, don’t use paper that is too smooth. For example, office stationery paper such as copy paper is best not to be used by beginners. Because these papers are not very absorbent, it is not easy to feel the communication between pen and paper.
Thirdly, ordinary Yuan Shu paper is not recommended. It is yellow paper, which is too rough, slightly less absorbent, and relatively expensive.
Third, generally speaking, just use raw edge paper, which is cheap and easy to use. Any handmade or machine-made one will do, and the better ones cost about twelve yuan a piece (one hundred pieces). According to the speed of writing ten pieces of paper every day, it is already very hard, which is equivalent to one yuan and two cents. Learning calligraphy is something that even poor people can participate in
Fourth, what kind of paper should be used for formal creative occasions? Generally speaking, colored rice paper is used. Se Xuan generally has alum added, and it is neither very water-resistant nor completely water-resistant. It is similar to raw edge paper. Color propaganda is relatively cheap, and the effect of framing is good, so it is more suitable to use color propaganda when writing formal works when you are a beginner.
It is best to use rice-framed paper with blank edges. There are gridded papers for practicing large characters and small characters. Use the paper for writing large characters at first to practice the strokes, and then use the small-grid paper to master the frame structure. The so-called "without rules, there is no square", written in the grid means that we must first seek to be correct, and then reborn, forming deep internal strength, there are many benefits!
