At the beginning of the Book of Li Shimin, Emperor Taizong studied calligraphy with Shi Ling, a calligrapher of Sui Dynasty, and often studied calligraphy with Yu Shinan, Ou Yangxun and Chu Suiliang, and later became interested in Wang Xizhi. Emperor Taizong's good deeds, Li Shimin's grass and flying white, especially in ancient times, are almost realistic; Handed down works include Jinci Ming and Wenquan Ming. 1, Jinci inscription:
