Dayiyi express

The ancients said in painting that "meaning should be similar in shape" and "meaning should be similar in color". What does that mean? I think it means emotion. The meaning of these two sentences is that it doesn't matter whether the shape and color are similar as long as the emotions are fully expressed. This is the core of China's freehand brushwork.

All good paintings are emotional, but from literati painting, more emphasis is placed on the expression of emotions, while the objective "similarity" is placed in a secondary position, but unlike western abstract paintings, it is completely similar.

I think painting can be summarized into three states of expression: one is to express feelings by describing objective objects. The meticulous brushwork before western post-impressionism and the style of China Painting Academy belong to this type. Second, expressing feelings by borrowing things means that you are relatively less bound by objective reality, but you also need to express your feelings with the help of objective images. Such as cubism, fauvism, expressionism and China's freehand brushwork. Third, give up things to express feelings, that is, the western abstract school, without the help of objective images, only conveys feelings through abstract factors such as points, lines, surfaces and color blocks. China's calligraphy is similar.

I think good art has nothing to do with the form of its surface expression. It is important to express your feelings through this language and effectively convey the inner truth.
