Tongchun Garden in Da Chun, Beijing: Attracting diners to "smell the fragrance and stop knowing the taste"

Of the "Eight Da Chun" in West Chang 'an Avenue in 1930s, only Tongchun Garden was still open. At the beginning of Tongchun Garden's opening, the store was located in the north of West Chang 'an Avenue and the west of Telegraph Building. I went to West Chang 'an Avenue to look for old traces of Da Chun. This long street has completely lost its traces of the past. On the west side of the telegraph building is the famous civil aviation building in Beijing. Although there are several small restaurants near the book building, they are also some very common fast food. In 1930s, the scenes of "Eight Da Chun" and "Striving for the Fantasy" in West Chang 'an Avenue have been submerged in historical memory. On the opening day, Feng Shu, then manager of Beiping Electric Company and a famous calligrapher, was invited to attend. Feng Shu gave Tong Chunyuan a couplet to congratulate the opening of the new store: "Jiuquan Fragrance in Xinghua Village, Eight Da Chun in Chang 'an Avenue". Since then, with the opening of Tongchun Garden, Eight Da Chun has become famous in Beijing.

Going to Tongchun Garden is not only about eating, but also about eating culture, such as squirrel mandarin fish, which is borrowed from the poem "Egrets fly in front of Mount Cisse and mandarin fish are fat in peach blossoms" in the Tang Dynasty. Dishes with anecdotes and allusions are more delicious than dishes. It is said that at the beginning of the opening of Tongchun Garden, Sweet and Sour Mandarin Fish was the main dish in Wang Shizhen, which attracted diners to "dismount when they smell the fragrance, but stop when they know the taste". Sweet and Sour Mandarin Fish is almost a must at the table.

1936, Tongchun Garden expanded the East Courtyard separated by a wall, two quadrangles in the east and west, and several small courtyards, which became 25 restaurants. In particular, the newly expanded East Campus is spacious and bright, with a good environment, and various banquets are arranged. The owner of the restaurant is very good at doing business, and often invites some famous actors at that time to sing a few jokes to add to the fun, so there are an endless stream of guests in the Spring Garden on weekdays, and the business is very prosperous. It is said that the 60th birthday of Mei Lanfang, a famous Peking Opera artist, was held in Tongchun Garden. And Mr. Xiao Changhua's apprentice also held a banquet here to celebrate. Tan, a famous Peking Opera artist, will definitely go to Tongchun Garden for dinner every time he performs in Chang 'an Grand Theatre.

1954, Chang 'an Avenue widened the road and Tongchunyuan moved to the southwest corner of Xidan intersection. 1999, in order to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the National Day, Xidan intersection was rebuilt in a large area, Tongchun Garden was relocated again, and Xinjiekou Outer Street established a new home.
